Well our season is almost over here in sd they have killed 33 cats since the begining of the year and there have been some good ones taken one inperticullar that the gf&p weighted at 177lbs i dont know who shot it but it was taken down by custer and was estimated to be 5 year old male lion. Here is a pic that was posted in the local paper.

Why did they move the season in SoDak to after the the first of the year? More people in the field for deer season means the more likely the quota will be met. I know the guys I hunt with always carried a tag because we would usually see one or two on a trip.

The quota will be met. Only 10 - 11 more to fill it. Waiting until the first of the year means it is less likely one will ride home in a "blue plate".;):D

My bad, blue plates were never able to hunt them. Guess I should have known that.

They pushed the season back in hopes of allowing the kittins to be alittle older, but i think that has backfired on them as there has been 3or4 cats shot around that six month old and they said it was legal because non of them had visible spots on them.

They always meet the quota, unfortunately once the female quota is met they don't let people with hounds shoot the rest of the tom quota.

We run into kittens of all ages while running cats. They can breed at any time of the year. It's up to the people to figure out if it's a yearling or not.

Adds an extra "season" to get out and enjoy the Black Hills! By moving the season they made cat hunters out of guys. Most guys would shoot one if they saw it during deer season, but not actually "hunt" them. Besides that, it brings more guys to town just for the cat hunting, which translates into money spent!

Dang thats a big cat. Don't want to run into that sneakin around in the dark.

Thats a great cat for sure I have seen a few out there turkey hunting some day id love to hunt them somewhere just gotta find a friend with hounds first

I miss the Black Hills. What a cool place! I lived near the fish hatchery on the outskirts of Rapid City where the Big Horn Sheep would graze in the middle of the day. A really unique place for sure.

That's awesome MtMiller. I don't think people know just how unique that is seeing all those sheep. Very cool!

It is at the Hatchery in RC that 6x6 mentioned. I was back there for Christmas.

We don't have any bighorns in this part of the country.;)
