To go along with the worst camp meal thread, how about a best meal thread? I bet we've all had good food at camp too... :D

1: Andy's wife's pesole that she sends on hunting trips with him

2: Gerald's bear roast on the HT hunt

3: Randy's bear sausage biscuits and gravy on the HT hunt

We eat really good at Elk Camp.
If I have to pick just 1, it would be my BBQ Rigs, Country style Pork Ribs with my home made secret BBQ Sauce.
on a Charcoal Grill.

Sounds like the wife better make some for our deer hunt.;)

We were 6 days into an 8 day backpacking work trip when another crew came to share our camp. They cooked giant BBQ Pulled Pork sandwiches and beans while our crew had random canned food. By the smell, I can only assume it was the best camp meal ever. :(

Almost anything we cook up after a long day of hard hunting. (Almost being the key word. See my post in the "Worst Camp Food" thread regarding the ribs. LOL) In my opinion you can't cook food as good at home on a stove or in an oven as you can on a campfire. Camp food is awesome!!!!

Side salad with salad dressing. Brown some hamburger and add to bottled spaghetti sauce so thick it is almost stew and some bread with butter. I can feel my leg muscles rebuilding while eating that and skill level to make and time required is such can be eating within 30 minutes of dragging rears back into camp after dark.

Pheasant big mamou on pasta my dad's buddy used to make for deer camp. So spicy it hurt your face, too good to not have seconds.

Usually the last day of deer season (assuming all tags are filled), we have a wild game grill out on one of the hunting grounds. Venison medallions wrapped in bacon, boned out pheasant thighs stuffed with cheese, onions, and bacon, and deep fried fish (usually a mix of blue gills, walleye, and perch). Everyone gets a dutch oven baked potato and we wash it down with a beverage of your choice. It's a great way to end the season.

More of a technique - but we mainly do this while back-pack hunting - after the kill.

Build a fire and get a good bed of coals. Find a flat rock and set it up next to the coals so there's 4-5 inches of space under the rock. Move the coals under the rock (add as necessary to keep rock hot).

After the rock is heated, lay a tenderloin on the rock. Season with what you've got. If you have tinfoil you can tent over the meat to help it cook faster. Keep rotating the tenderloin until it's done.

Slice and eat.
