Bear Camp road runs from the Rogue Valley over the Siskiyou Mountains to the coast here in Southern Oregon. It is not passable in the winter because of snow. More than one has died after being stranded up there. The last one was when a family got stuck and after a week the dad tried to walk out and didn't make it. Unfortunately for him the rescuers found Mom and daughter the next day.
Today a woman from Florida did exactly what that family did and turned on her cars GPS which told her that Bear Camp was the shortest distance to the coast, which it is. In both cases they followed their GPS like it was the word of God while ignoring the Big yellow signs telling them the road was impassable. Amazing.
Lucky for this gal she slid off the road before she was out of cell phone range. Most of the road has no coverage and there is a big winter storm moving in tonight.
