I have been casually looking for a battery saw for light camp firewood duties for a while, but next summer I also want to cut out an old trail into a spot I like archery hunting in that’s currently almost impossible to navigate with deadfall. I would just use my little Stilhl 170 for hiking with, but I’d prefer to be quiet and not have to re-start the thing 100 times over a mile or two. Looking primarily at the EGO models that would offer equivalent cutting power, but has anyone else used some other good options? Thanks for any recommendations.

I have a Dewalt cordless chainsaw, mainly because all of my other tools are Dewalt and I have tons of batteries. It works great.

We use both at work those Milwaukee saws are quite impressive and the bigger dewalt is pretty good also. For trimming a trail out would probably work fairly well as long as you take enough battery power

Same saw, for the same reason.

I have no experience with the EGO brand, but im sure this will apply. Keeping a sharp chain is paramount for battery longevity. You will still need bar oil.

I love my little Milwaukee 14” saw. Does everything I need for camp.

Leave the house with a fully charged 8A battery and rarely need the backup 5A backup

I have a GreenWorks that seems ok for light duty, I can't really compare it to anything because the only other gas saw was a small POS. I keep it in the truck mostly to cut trees that have fallen in the road. You can often pick one up on sale.

I have a Stihl. The electric and gas of the same size cut comparably. Sometimes during heavy use the battery does get warm easily. For heavy cutting all day gas is king. But for my use I will never go back to pulling that rope.

I agree. If you already have a gas saw, the battery saw is not a replacement but another tool. They have their time and place.
Yeah. It's dependent on use. I have zero faith in the battery saws in heat and extreme cold. For cutting twigs at home electric is great. Real cutting is a gas saw. mtmuley

Have used a 12" Kobalt for a long time for utility around the house and deer lease...keep it cleaned and oiled.

My bil is a dewalt guy. He's had to replace 2 chainsaws because they broke. He isnt particularly hard on equipment. I inherited a set of ryobi tools after my son died which included a chain saw. I used that saw all the time trimming around treestands or cutting up logs across the road. It was decent for a throw away saw. It didnt have an automatic oiler which sucked.
