Banded Waterfowl

I picked up 7 in my first few years, but nothing in the last ten years....must be my shooting.

I have 0 in 15 years. Would like to get one. My uncle only has a couple in about 35 years. 7 is a huge number of banded birds in my opinion. That is some great luck.

Native,

If you want some jewelry try the park next to BSU in the evenings. :)

Funding for waterfowl banding has been diverted. It's now being used to further Agenda 21 efforts and the banding of American citizens.

I almost feel bad saying it now, but I shoot quite a few ducks a year, and generally get at least one band a year. Must be I finally found where my luck streak is. I will trade my band this year for some luck on the November whitetails.

Been hunting waterfowl since 1983 and only two bands

I bagged a Mallard in Alamosa, CO that was banded in Alamosa, CO and a Canada Goose banded at Memorial Park in Colorado Springs, CO that I bagged in Pueblo county. A whole 30 mile trip!

Not very exciting

Son shot a banded Goose last December, First one for him and I have not seen any for a while, the website was not updated as goose was banded less than 6 month previous as a gosling. Got mailer with information 6 months later with details.. Still cool.

I've been duck hunting for about 5 years now. I feel pretty lucky to have killed 2 so far. One last year and one the year before. Both of those seasons I hunted more than I ever have. I don't really care about bands too much, but they are kind of neat if you get one from far away.

The only way to get bands IMO is to shoot 100+ birds a season.

Bands are getting tougher to come by. The Feds have cut back on banding the last few years due to a shortage of cash. A biologist told me a couple years ago they weren't banding as many mallards as in years past and were focusing on more non mallard ducks. I was averaging a band a year for about 15 years until two years ago. Even got one of my last bands written up in Wildfowl magazine.

I got quite a few goose bands back when TN was proving we had adequate resident birds to have hunts. Neck bands too. All off Canada geese. On ducks, I have 10 or 12 but none in last three years.

Good luck to you all getting some bands, would really like a couple at some point but you never know.

I picked up another band during the opening weekend here in Oregon. I think that's number 7 or 8 since 1966. Crap I'm getting old!

The only band I have reported is most likely still on the goose. A Resident Canada goose who wondered close enough to the window for me to snipe the band number with binoculars. We used to have 20-30 collared geese visit our office pond every winter. I run the fountain all winter to keep the water open. We get multiple species of ducks as well as gaggles of geese for a suburban swim.
