Bad shot - good ending

Congratulations from a fellow Missouri guy on a very cool buck! You absolutely did the right thing by backing out over night. Very fortunate that coyotes didn't get him.

That’s awesome man! Love the weird looking claw at the end of his beam. Very smart backing out lack you did. I’m glad coyotes didn’t end up on him before you were able to recover him

Very cool antlers!! I think it’s funny how a lot of people claim that ‘the meat’s great’ after they leave a gut shot animal overnight LOL. Every animal that I’ve ever tried eating after it spent the night with the guts marinating inside has tasted just like it smelled…like poop, bad farts etc. That meat might not make you sick but if it forever ruins venison for a friend or family member with a sensitive palate, wouldn’t it be better to just leave it in the woods for the scavengers to enjoy?
Scavengers gotta eat too!

Don’t agree. If it’s plenty cold I think there is a good chance the meat is just fine. I think it’s our responsibility as hunters to at least try the meat and if it’s a little stinky turn it into sausage or something! I think it’s a dumb idea to just assume it’s bad and ‘let the scavengers eat’!!?

Congrats on a great deer @Lostinthewoods!
