Backstops and Safe shots in flat country

Just got back from deer hunting in a popular area and even with topography you need to be careful. I was standing up on a ridge glassing, heard a shot and the tell tail "zing" of a round zipping by. I hit the deck and noticed some does just below the ridge scatter (they were just out of view), waited 30 seconds and ran to the truck to get out of there. By the time I pulled away I heard several more shots and zings. Some idiot must have been shooting up hill on those does.
I was fully clad in blaze orange and probably 20 yards from the road - be careful out there.

It's not like there is an IQ test needed to buy a hunting license. I refer back to my post about shot up traffic signs. Anyone who would do something that stupid will do many other stupid things.

I see the skyline shot so often on hunting shows and videos. Scary
It is a huge pet peeve of mine.
Mine too, does my head in.

One of the best bits of shooting advice I was given at an early stage 'if there is doubt, there is no doubt, don't take the shot'

Cheers
