Attack on the Feds independence

Does anyone care about State's rights? What happens when Gavin sends federal troops into your state to shut down all the coal mines because carbon pollution is a "national emergency"? Should he be allowed to? If he's elected nothing can show him down but his own immortality; he would have complete immunity for all actions or crimes.
He will try something similar to Obama.

In other news:

DJT said at Davos military action wouldn't be used on Greenland (obviously, because that would be genuinely stupid to pick a fight with Europe when the US needs European support in Ukraine -- my theory is he's acting out his frustration from not successfully negotiating with Putin to end the Ukraine war (Putin is apparently his kryptonite), and/or he's listened to one too many top secret briefings on potential China and Russia threats to expand, including in the Arctic, so he wants to secure Greenland).

Perhaps already stated in this thread: If the SC strikes down US tariffs as is expected, then the aluminum baseball bat the US has been awkwardly swinging at everyone's kneecaps, gets melted into a participation trophy.

Plus, WSJ recently had an article noting it may be US consumers who are shouldering price hikes, anyway.

If the SC sides with Fed Governor Cook, and if by that time the Powell matter isn't yet wrapped up (he may still be on the Fed, just not chair), that's good for Powell, and perhaps Fed independence.

Indirectly related to Fed independence or the war on Powell (whoever appointed him was not thinking clearly, clearly), the special DOJ prosecutor DJT appointed to go after a few political enemies, stepped down. Courts had ruled she was improperly appointed. As long as the judiciary keeps its sanity, we might be ok. Good luck everyone!
Europe is far more concerned about Ukraine than Trump is! That's the main if not sole reason they haven't told him where to go...yet (Davos is not going well).

Kavanaughs questions on the cook case have been very direct...hes clearly stated his concern, saying if the goal of the administration is clearly political, what's to stop a future administration with a totally different political persuasion from doing the same thing? (something some in this thread might do well to ponder).

And Powell? You do know that Trump was the president who appointed him? And that Trump has publicly either forgotten about that or intentionally lied about it?

Who's we? And what does this plan say to do? And who is actually doing the doing?
The plan involves bringing in a bunch of paid agitators. Mainly lonely single women and 20 something men with no interest in these women. We will form drum circles at the Target in Jackson, break into a couple churches during services and shout down the pastor and congregation for being complacent in this action. Silence is violence! If that doesn't work, we are going to smash a bunch of windows in the downtown area, take over the courthouse, setup a sanctuary city for coal miners and form our own government. You know, peaceful protest.

Yes I know Trump appointed Powell. It was sarcasm.

Well - coal mining/burning isnt inherently illegal (just regulated) So there would be no way to do that?

Maybe the better example would be the states neglecting/disregarding things like the epa and clean water act - for "states rights "
Ok fair nuance, but if we look around, it appears to be one executive action away from being illegal.

The crux seems to be that some people, including me, hold immigrants in high regard. I personally, hold them in some of the highest regard- they're mostly great humans. And because of that, we give them some grace over the legal/illegal status because "we" as a country have progressively made it harder and harder to become a legal immigrant, and the places they are coming from are, or at least appear to be, getting worse and worse proportionally to the US. I don't know of anyone, including the most liberal of the liberals, who thinks non-citizens, legal or not, shouldn't be deported for felony convictions. So, for us sympathizers, the current process is intolerable. And it represents much of what many people see as the failings of the current administration, so in a way, it's a proxy for broader concerns and animosity.

As several people have tried to point out, most reasonable people have much more in common on this, or any topic, than the hardliners want you to believe.

...

There are times when I wish there were another large war, as "People" need an enemy, and we don't really have one anymore. So Americans, being as industrious as we are, had to find a solution, and coalesced on viewing other Americans as the enemy, which is a terrible trapping.

You might have put more thought into this post than any other you have written.

Don't forget to pick one lucky protester to get shot in the face.

So will the paid agitators be paid more, or less than the agitators in the Twin Cities? Hopefully you will factor in the high cost of everything in Jackson.

It is also smart to pick the most coal friendly town in Wyoming.

Thank you! You didn't have to say that but its appreciated.

You got plans for January 20, 2029?

Im going to pay them an OT rate, that way they don't have to pay taxes.

It just such a nice place to bang a drum.

Perhaps a point of agreement, I am not against immigration, but the current process of any one jumping the border is intolerable. We have 1 million legal immigrants last year, what is a fair number is your estimation? Should immigrant need to prove that they will not require public assistance? How about the ability to speak English. What is the threshold for too many-not enough? I agree there are a lot of crappy places in the world do we take them all?

Ice, DHS, and the administration have blatantantly lied about their actions, with many documented instances of kidnapping US citizens or aliens with legal papers, even detaining off duty police officers based on the color of their skin.

Any legitimate law enforcement organization would acknowledge concerns or at least say they are looking into them.

Multiple attempts to get names and details of people ICE has in detention have not been responded to.

You really think at this point anything they say can be trusted without verification?

This administration is scarily orwellian.

"The party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command."

English? Lots of people ancestors in this country arrived speaking other languages- German, French, Italian, Spanish, etc. Second generation speaks English.

Federal Flag (Foreign Labor Application Gateway) programs needs expanded. There is an economic demand by business in this country for labor at the immigrant level. Immigrants doing the work established citizens don’t want to do at that pay level happens across all economies. Idaho ag needs a lot of immigrants to milk cows, etc.

Let the economy determine the amount of immigrants. If they have a Flag job, get in the country. Flag paperwork should be a get out of ICE jail card. There should be a work to citizenship clause in Flag too. We’re all ancestors of immigrants.

I don't live in a sanctuary city/state. Not likely to know someone.

Are anecdotes the only evidence you take?
I think that if those citizens who do live in sanctuary city / state wanted to make a change then they would have addressed that with their elected government. If the overwhelming majority of the population in that area finds value in its immigration polices or practices, but another citizen of that same city/state perceives it another way; then that citizen in opposition has the choice of continuing to lobby for change in their local policies or leavening the environment that s/he/they dislikes. These issues appear to be a local matter unless their policies have created an specific adverse condition that has spilled over into another distinct area who then would have justifiable cause for concern and consider appropriate recourse.

Appropriate recourse is not invading a city with masked gunmen numbering in similar size of a U.S. Marine Regiment. Especially, a city who did not ask for help, is far from you and there was no specific adverse condition created to consider. If there are grievances then those grievances should be handled in court not at gunpoint.

I don't think that folks from where you are from would want people from Brooklyn NY to tell you how to govern your local policies would you? Especially given that all they would have really known about the situation is a brief drive through, fly through visit or is second hand information from sensationalist tabloids with the word NEWs in their DBA name.

Keep in mind that this whole immigration issue is nothing new and it is congresses fault. Congress has failed over and over again to address the issue for decades because the two party system needs something to divide people. There was a bipartisan bill to address these issues but Donald stopped it from passing because he was going to use this issue to get into office.

Folks say that Biden was doing this or doing that for this reason or that reason, but I believe that he was just trying to force congress to act and set appropriate laws. I think that many were led to believe that the undocumented folks are voting but the reality is that the real reason it works is that immigration is good for the economy. Those folks seeking legal status are paying all of the taxes you are without representation or benefit. They don't vote, or collect benefits other than those with refugee status, but they do pay into them. Of course this backfired on the Dems and IMO was the second largest mistake he made.

I think that we are all suffering from what's called future shock and people don't understand how to process it. Shocking news used to take time to travel but now it's immediate reporting.

It became a larger issue when Ted Turner made the first 24 hours News broadcasting channel and now it is in hyperdrive with social media. Our kids born since 2000 are learning how to sort this out but I don't think that older generations have yet. These kids don't trust anything they see on line. If you find yourself agreeing with much of what the news is providing to you, then you just might be consuming a procured product that was designed to be attractive to you.

Future shock, a concept by Alvin Toffler, describes the psychological stress and disorientation from experiencing too much change too quickly, leading to anxiety, confusion, and an inability to cope, often triggered by rapid technological and social advancements. It's a form of "societal motion sickness" where individuals feel overwhelmed by accelerated innovation, prompting defense mechanisms like retreating to the past (revisionism) or simplifying complex issues (super-simplification). Today, it's seen in reactions to AI, social media, and constant digital flux, creating a need for resilience and new ways to manage change.

This is likely what democrats wanted they dont want to fix the issue they want the issue on national news

Same things republicans do find a large issue try to make it worse and point the finger at the other side

Wont be ICE. It will be OSMRE. As long as I can maintain 10 and 2 on the steering wheel, remember which pedal is the gas and which is the brake I should be fine.
Be sure to bring your make up and leave the chew at home too, dont want to look brown or talk funny.

So basically a system similar to other countries, if you get employer sponsored you can come in, ok. I can see where they may be some problems as far as native workers not wanting their wages to go down but at least it is a system not a free for all.
