Attack on the Feds independence

Man I think most of you live in a bubble. He's not any less popular with the people who actually voted for him that he was. Polls are full of shit. Remember, he wasn't even supposed to win the first go around? Just walk outside and talk to your neighbors, none of them are worked up about anything that they attribute to him. They think, if they do, that what he's doing to the Fed is the correct thing, he's fighting for them after all.
I can believe that. But I would bet none of them could tell you what the Fed actually does and how it does it.

Sure, but that's not on the test for voting.

Nor do I think people vote with their pocketbooks/bank accounts. despite what others claim. Heck, I don't think people know with any reasonable clarity how they are paid. What people do understand are simple social issues and the emotions associated with them, and right now one party has cornered the market in using it to their advantage.

How can you support having guys in the girls' sports or in girls' bathrooms?
Killing babies?
How can you not want to "Put America First"?
"Drain the swamp"
etc
etc
etc

From my [very lucky] economic perspective, nothing appreciable has changed since I started my career. It doesn't matter who's in office or what party they represent.

well, combine the short term memory of the electorate and the average education level and reading comprehension of adult americans and voila!

but for real, nobody actually knew what was in project 2025. there were sound bytes, and a few articles about some pieces here and there. but the average person just had no idea. and who could blame them? i really didn't fully understand what it was about. hindsight is 20/20.

many other things were loudly and proudly proclaimed that nobody took seriously. some started to, I started to.

i was for sure done after jan 6.
The smartest thing they could do with Project 2025 is exactly what they did: publish the whole 940 pages where anybody with Google can look right at it. It’s absurdly long and boringly written. I didn’t make it past the OMB section written by Russ Vought, the appointed director of OMB. They made it so that anyone looking for a bullet list had to get it from a source that they either implicitly trusted or implicitly didn’t.

All they really had to do was get Trump to say he didn’t know anything about it. Hell, some people are still denying it is the playbook.

SCOTUS hears the Lisa Cook case in the coming days, which is a litmus test for firing Powell and the Senate Finance Committee, because Stephen Miranda’s temporary appointment expires at the end of the month and he will need to be made permanent. So Tillis blocking nominees is a great sound bite now but it will be put up or shut up very soon.

What is lost in this is the Administration is showing that now monetary policy is Fiscal policy. They can’t grow tax revenue so they want lower rates and a devalued dollar. They can’t grow our way out of the deficit so they will try to inflate it down. 3% inflation is the new normal under this path. For 60% of Americans that don’t own significant wealth this will be an economic gut punch that lasts for decades. The only real winner in all this is China as they find new trading partners and more influence across the globe.

It will be interesting to see if Powell stays on as a Fed board governor after he is done being Chairman. Sounds like nobody has ever done that but I don't think it would be a big surprise if he sticks around. I hope he does. Could make for an interesting dynamic.

This was for sure a "warning" to the next chair and not really against Powell IMO....Let's just hope the next one is as strong as Powell to not put up with bullying and threats. We need more Republicans to stand up against Trump, I feel they are all too afraid of him and leading by fear is a horrible thing as I have seen it in action. When I saw it happen at my company I called it out to HR, they did the right thing and I left the company....too bad HR can't just take care of Trump :)

Still love him.

Two points - the survey was completed by a "free market think tank" which I think is pretty obviously right-coded. That being said, it still shows an almost 10% decrease in approval from the 67% of the vote he got in Idaho. It's not like that means blue wave in Idaho, but that kind of margin throughout the nation (which I know isn't realistic) would turn both houses easily.

We don't use Idaho as a barometer for anything political, for good reason. Below is a broader aggregated measure of polls. If you talk to people that still approve, ask if they would feel the same way if the government decided to knock on doors to check for legal gun ownership. If you talk to people who are "undecided", please check for a pulse. An oppressive government is an oppressive government.

I have never seen a president act the way he does. The idiots he appoints to carry out his intentions are hard to watch as they grovel at his feet. The man is an egotistical maniac. Granting pardons to known criminals. Venezuela was all about drug interdiction until it turned into all about oil. I do not think there are very many Americans that disagree with drug interdictions, but the real reasons seem to be surfacing. I believe he wants Greenland for the rare earth minerals. Greenland is as safe being part of Nato as would be if US owned it. Destroying Nato to get it would be a bad trade. I hope that the politicians that once knew he was bad before deciding to lick his boots and kiss his butt will remember that they too will be judged in history along side him. I vote for the fool twice but will never ever do it again. I'm an independent and will help decide the midterms.

Until the rule of law is brought back into the US. There's no way international relations will ever be repaired. America is on it's own now and no one want to be close to that mess.

Trump et al., must go sooooo f'n hard if you have the mental and cognitive capacities of a 12yo boy. The memes, AI slop and using terms like FAFO during press conferences...

For me it's the influx of Nazi and white-nationalist slogans being used by officials and official gov't accounts, they're not even hiding it anymore. The wolf is in plain sight and the sheep are cheering him on! The year is 1936 2026, there is still time to stop him before it gets much worse, but don't be fooled, irreparable damage has already been done.

Anyway, how's that economy going?

Nazi and white-nationalist slogans? Lay off the CTV/CBC....

'Nazi and white-nationalist slogans? Lay off the CTV/CBC....

Give me a moment, I will gladly find you a slough of examples.

Edit:
"Donroe" Doctrine and US' Sphere of influence = Lebensraum
One Homeland. One People. One Heritage. = Ein Volk, Ein Reich, Ein Fuhrer
We'll Have Our Home Again = By God We'll Have Our Home Again (white-nationalist song)
One of ours, all of yours = Nazi and Spanish fascist policy

Of all the slogans and word combinations they could pick, they chose extremely divisive ones that make parallel to fascist ideals. These are used by gov't officials or by official gov't accounts; this is not normal. Maybe it's just me, but I highly believe gov't officials shouldn't be using such slogans and leave room for any interpretation.

Anyway, I've derailed this thread enough and will leave it at this. Feel free to be Okay with all of the above, it just speaks to your character.

When the never-ending pipeline of foreign investment returns, international relations will return to status quo. The only countries looking for a different dance partner are those that are no longer receiving the funds they used to. The ones that are, are more than happy to be friendly with the world's greatest supplier of nonsensical foreign investment.
