Armistice day Storm 1940

The Armistice Day Storm is a tremendous story...would probably make a compelling movie.

I learned about it when I read a piece Gordon MacQuarrie wrote on the Armistice Day storm...it can be found in a collection of his newspaper columns called Right Off The Reel.

I recommend everyone have some of MacQuarries writings on their bookshelf

There is a documentary on YouTube.

Do you know where Bay Island is?
No I do not. I just looked on a pool map and don’t see anything. It’s hard telling how the islands were different back in 1940. Plus all of those islands have about 4 different names. An official name, a Wisconsin common name, an Iowa common name, and so forth. 😂.

Do you know where Bay Island is?
I would say it was somewhere either in Harpers Slough, which is just north of the lock on the Iowa side or where the channel turns east/west in front of ferryville where they’ve had to reconstruct all of those islands in the last 15 years.

Yeah I was thinking maybe where the main channel cuts through. I also looked at my maps.

There is a great article about Bud Grant the legendary Vikings coach and how he lived through it in the Minneapolis Star Tribune a few years ago. It was amazing.

Glad to see this recommendation. I was honored to write the foreword (I also took the cover photo, and that's one of MacQuarrie's typewriters in the photo!) There are some real gems in this newish book. Well worth the read for MacQuarrie fans.
