Apple tv options

Question:
I am going to China for 6 months and would like to access movies and US TV from there. We are presently looking at Apple TV but wondering if there are other options. We will have access to a VPN.
What are the options and do you folks favor one over the others?

Apple TV looks pretty cool so does the Roku streaming Netflex and Hulu
