I'm looking at moving there from the midwest, tired of living out here and CAN NOT convince the GF to do Missoula... Last attempt to convince her blew up in my face lol so I've given up and settled for Denver.

Basically I was hoping to PM you with some questions about the area. Thanks guys!

LOL! Well I was expecting most of those answers, believe me it's crosses my mind but I dunno if I can justify it. I just need to be in the mountains, the flatness of OH is driving me bananas. I grew up hunting, flyfishing, mt biking, rock climbing, snowboarding etc... and well there's hunting here but if you're not a local you're forced to public land which is miserable to hunt in OH and 2hrs from my apt and you can't camp overnight on the public land.

I am in Colorado Springs. An hour away and a WORLD apart. Traffic in Denver is HORRIBLE. Housing is outrageous if you want to live some where decent. The Springs has all the "big city" stuff that Denver has without all the bs and $$$$$$. You can be to Woodland Park and the mountains in 30-40 minutes. Tons of parks and things to do. Just an all around great standard of living. PM if you want details. I have been here 7.5 years.

I agree with Springs. Anytime I have friends contemplating a visit, I always tell them to go to Springs instead of Denver. Plus there's a Bass Pro Shop and a Sportsman's Warehouse.

It's all relative. Both places are getting bad and I wouldn't live in either. 15 years ago I would agree with you about the Springs.

teej89, I shot you a PM.

Loveland is nice as is Windsor, they are about 50 miles north of Denver. You look east you see Kansas you look west and you can't see California. Lots of flat land near Denver to make you feel at home.

There are other cities in Montana to look at too. Or is she against the idea of Montana in general? Bozeman is really cool but smaller than the other cities. If she is stuck on Colorado, take a look at Fort Collins as well. Neat little city about 1.5 hours north of Denver with good access to public lands. I'm not sure but I assume it's not as pricey as Denver.

what type of work are you looking for? got enough dope smokin snowboarders here already. ;) seriously though, if I were staring out again id aim west or north of Denver a few hundred miles, traffic is rediculous and getting worse

I lived in Monument and commuted to Denver for just over a year. Hated every minute of it. Dirty, expensive, rat race. The Springs is a little better, but I still wasn't crazy about it. Yes there is mountain recreation close to Denver, but expect company, especially on the weekends within 2 hours of the metro. Do yourself a HUGE favor and take a week to come out and visit before you commit to a job/move. I will never go back, and if I had visited for a week I probably would have never moved there to begin with.

That being said, the western slope of CO (Grand Junction, Montrose, Rifle, etc.) rocks. I love it here. I probably will never leave and I hope nothing ever changes to where I have to leave. If your GF likes shopping, eating out, clubs, that sort of thing she may feel like she lives on an island, but my family and I don't particularly care for those things and this outdoor recreation here is great.

I live in Arvada, which is northwest of Denver. I was from the East Coast originally and also had wanted to live in Missoula, but my wife felt like it was too isolated. I got a job offer in Denver, so this became the compromise location. As others have said the traffic can be heavy and the real estate is expensive. But if you want to keep your girlfriend and still live in the West, it's not a bad compromise in my opinion. You may not be able to hunt in your backyard, but there's plenty of good hunting within a few hours. And Missoula is a short 15 hour drive away. Or you could say the hell with it and just go to Missoula. Probably plenty of women around with the University there.

Daughter lives in Denver, Visit often. Some very nice eating places. Try the elk or bison stakes at Elkhorn?, the oldest steak house in the city. Excellent and big bucks!

Living expense are out of sight. I am paying my daughters.

Find a pretty girl in Missoula!

I wonder how many of these guys suggesting finding a Missoula girl have met a Missoula girl...
