Anybody Buying Yet? Where’s the Bottom?

Information for you to digest.
No one believes those numbers from Wednesday are right. Im not going full conspiracy or anything, but nothing lines up. It doesn't even line up with what the White House expectation. That is why the market sold off in the following hours...and today. It is hard to get an accurate picture of where we stand.

Go full conspiracy. We can handle it!

Was the tariff decision already priced in do you think? Or we are due for a nice jump here?

In retirement I don't dabble in trading much but for once I might be able to take advantage if there's a jump, moved some money out of our bond mix to equities just settled yesterday.

This gives the Fed more justification to lower rates, as any tariff impact on inflation goes away. But it also pressures our funding problems. IF it all holds, and that is a big IF, the curve should steepen - lower on short rates and higher on longer end. The lack of economic uncertainty would be a good thing for all, but uncertainty is kind of Trump's thing, so it will be an interesting week.

Don’t you think the admin expected this and will be putting the tariffs back on via other authority? I think they said as much. Thats my view and why I think this ruling doesnt change much.

Yes, but it is easier said than done. Some of the alternatives have a limited scope and duration and would require Congress to get involved. I know, God forbid, Congress has to do its job.

Well the part about Congress is not a minor detail. If that’s the case those tariffs are off.

If he re establishes tariffs soon, the time Congress needs to step in would be even closer to the midterm election.

Going to be interesting...maybe should look into popcorn futures...

Section 122 gets him 150 days and I’m not sure how easily it can be rolled. The entire bill is poorly written and talks about balance of payment deficits but there is no such thing because a balance of payments is balanced. It is the capital account, and more narrowly the trade deficit that they are targeting. But the bill doesn’t go into much detail on that. Just resurrected one of those failed bills from the 1970’s that didn’t work to fix the problem. More insecurity for businesses and more money and deals going overseas.

Looks like any market sigh of relief is already over. Probably his 10--no now 15 percent--tariff threat over the weekend.

I just checked the price of bitcoin...$64,495. I guess some might want to buy the dip. I'll wait, maybe buy a few if they come all the way down to earth.

Curious what you think down to earth is on an asset that only exists virtually?
