Annual elk rifle thread

If I get to go elk hunting this year, I will be carrying a 22” barrel 280AI that weighs just about 7.5# scoped. After carrying my 30 Nosler around last year looking for a cross canyon shot, I decided I like slipping through the woods and brush better.
Is it back from cerakote yet?

Remington 700 CDL in .300 win mag. which has been bedded. I shoot handloads with 180 gr. Hornady soft point. Rifle is topped with Leupold VX 2 4x12x40 but will likely get a new Leupold VX 6 this year. Killed three bull elk with it and can’t imagine needing a different rifle or round as this old girl just flat out shoots.

It is tough to beat a Remington 700 in most forms ! I have a few Mauser’s and Winchester’s that I la la luv :) but my old BDL 7 Mag will just out shoot those neat O controlled round actions ! Sucker just clusters factory 150’s and 160’s right in the 3” orange dot at 200 yards ! Great confidence builder for me when I have an opportunity in the elk woods.

Very nice! I have the twin to that rifle, it's 43 years old now. (y)

This year will be a Christensen arms Mesa fft 300 prc with a 4-16x50 Trijicon credo sitting on top shooting 205 grain Berger elites and a tikka 6.5 creedbro with a SWFA 6x super chicken sitting on it shooting 140 grain berger vlds. Odds of the 300 prc making it to elk season are pretty slim though as I’m quite the tikka slut anymore.

This is terrible. haven't hunted in several years. Just getting long in the tooth and not sure how I'd get a down animal out. But thinking I need to get a new 4 wheeler to haul out gme in quarters. To late for elk tags here so maybe next year. Have only killed six. Three with my 6.5x06 and a 140gr Hornady SP and three with a 1903 Paul Jaeger Springfield in 30-06. Get out next year and thinking I'll take my Mod 70 featherweight in 6.5x55 with a 140gr Speer Hot Core! Since getting that 6.5x06 put together, 700 BDL with a 25" Shillen barrel I have been overcome with want to's for 6.5's. Have a 260 rem on the way but gonna stick to 129gr Hornady's if it will shoot them well. Lot less recoil in the 6.5 over the 30-06! 30-06 I use 180gr Hornady SP's in. Inherited if from a good friend and was afraid of harming it for years. Finally got over it and it does shoot pretty darn good. Has a 2 3/4x Redfield widefieeld on it I got new about 1970 for a 338 mag. Still using the scope! Rifle had the origional two stage muilitary trigger worked over by jaeger; best trigger I ever shot!

My Browning 6.5PRC is sitting at the store waiting for me to fill out the paperwork. It'll be wearing an Athlon Helos 4-20 though I'm not sure it'll be an elk rifle or if that scope will remain on it. It'll be sending 124Hammers or Hornady 147s.

My Kimber Hunter 280ai with 143Hammers is still my preferred rifle and is getting ready for spring bear.

Depending on if I draw or not, elk rifle will be the CA Ridgeline .300 PRC or my Dad's M70 carbine '06 or possibly a Rem 700 .300 RUM sitting in an AG Composite stock. All just depends on how fast that one guy in Fallon can turn 2 of the 3 around, and on-going load development.

PRC will be tossing 199 HH, the '06 will be with 137 HH, and the RUM will probably get some 210 Berger VLD.

Might as well mention the back up rifle...sako A7 sitting in a mcswirly 7-08. Well idk maybe the old man's 7 mag A-bolt.

Right as the “pandemic” started I got a great deal on a Christensen Ridgeline in 300 short mag before a Montana trip. Accurate with 180g Noslers. If anyone shoots any other load thru a Ridgline let me know.

.280 AI Bergara Mountain Premier with night force scope… need to get it dialed in before heading out to MT this fall.

Used last year .280AI with custom 700 action with Zeiss scope on it. Taken a number of whitetail and a couple of cow elk. Not pretty but gets the job done.
