Now heads to federal court. If AP is granted a stay, bison can stay on BLM while the case plays out. If not, onto AP deeded in the fall.

The cowboys have been saved!

AP just announced they will not be allowing a bison harvest this fall. The cowboys first arrived and booted the Native Americans and native bison off their land, and now that they are trying to come back, the cowboys have won again. Good job Gianforte and BLM, you saved the cowboys from those evil native bison grazing on their native range.

Gianforte and the entire federal delegation, all Republicans, had sent letters to the Trump administration urging the repeal of the bison leases.

Members of the state’s delegation also praised the decision in statements to the press.

“Nobody makes better beef than Montana ranchers. This decision is a return to the original mission the BLM was created for,” said Rep. Ryan Zinke in a statement to the media. “The Taylor Grazing Act made clear these lands play a critical role in feeding our nation and sustaining rural communities, they are not meant to be locked up to satisfy the latest Washington political agenda. In Montana, working lands support ranching families who help put food on America’s tables.”

Montana’s senior Sen. Steve Daines thanked Interior Secretary Doug Burgum and President Donald Trump for “restoring common sense land management.”

Attorney General Austin Knudsen, who worked on behalf of the state to cancel the bison leases, called the decision a “huge victory” for Montana farmers and ranchers.”

“As someone who grew up farming and ranching in Northeast Montana, I know how important this decision is to protect the hardworking livestock and ranching communities in that region and keep the elitists from destroying their livelihood,” Knudsen said.

Now that we have this great, 'uge, beautiful decision that bison aren't livestock and are in fact wildlife, MT FWP better get to restoring them across all native ranges! To hell with brucellosis.

What is it with this Republican administration not understanding the consequences of their actions (mostly catering to large landowner donors with laughably weak legal opinions)? Or do they fully understand the consequences and simply not intend to suffer them?

Their directives on corner crossing and bison grazing leases should have opened a massive can of worms that would legally backfire under any amount of scrutiny, and have the end result be counter to what they are driving at. I don't believe them to be incompetent (mostly), which leads me to believe they know something I don't, and will find some way to fulfill their wishes to the detriment of the wildlife and average resident of the state.
