The Board of Game met Oct 20, 2022 to hear information from the Alaska Department of Fish & Game (ADFG) about the status of Alaska's Dall sheep populations. ADFG was not making recommendations to the board; they were there to provide historic and current information. ADFG sheep research biologists Tom Lohuis and Brad Wendling, along with former master guide Joe Want, spent about two hours giving an excellent presentation to the board, with numerous slides.

The slides from the presentation are available online here: https://www.adfg.alaska.gov/static/regulations/regprocess/gameboard/pdfs/2022-2023/sheep/adfg-presentation.pdf

Unit 19C in the western Alaska Range, which had some of the more severe population declines. Resident hunters took only 3 rams in Unit 19C this fall while guided nonresident hunters took 26. Board member Stosh Hoffman stated that he planned to submit a Board-Generated-Proposal to close Unit 19C to all sheep hunting for five years. This despite AK Fish and Game conclusion that full-curl harvest regulation is sustainable, with a harvestable surplus of legal rams after every hunting season in all units.

Does any one have the link to how many sheep were harvested per unit ? Also has there been any updates on this ?
