Having just read the thread posted by Dr mdunc8 it brought back some memories. https://onyourownadventures.com/hunttalk/showthread.php?279909-Nice-Surprise

Has anyone else had a piece of artwork created for them?
It brings back such memories, and even better when it is given to you as a surprise gift.

The story behind mine, a few years ago on a pheasant shoot, a bitterly cold freezing day, ice and snow everywhere, but a really bright crisp clear day.
It was the last day of our season, and as it turned out, i had the last shot of the season, but one that is etched into my memory.

I was 'placed' on my own around a frozen pond, surrounded by tree's, i couldn't see any of the other guys, i could just hear shots as the occasional pheasant was flushed by the spaniels, i saw nothing, nothing that is until in the distance a speck came into view, it was a solitary duck, i heard a volley of shots, each time a shot was fired the duck gained elevation, i was the last gun it would fly over, by now it was almost in space!
I fired, i must have hit something vital, cheers from the other guns echoed down the valley, it folded in the air, and fell, fell vertical straight down into the frozen pond, the only thing visible was a pair of legs sticking in the air!
It would have been way too dangerous to let the dogs retrieve it, but it was fun watching them look at the duck, it was retrieved by use of a boat later.

Whilst i never forgot the shot, i was reminded a few months later, one of the guys did a little comical sketch, the speech bubble from the dog says 'i'm not getting that!', the duck in the background is wearing ice skates, it hangs on my wall as one of the best shots i have ever done, but also one of the most humorous

This one was done for me by a friend to commemorate the time I killed a buck with my pants around my ankles.20171219_134208.jpg

That is a good one love the story. I can just picture that duck falling straight though the ice with only the legs sticking out. Love it!!!!
