Figured I'd bring you guy's along for another of my boy Henry's first. Instead of a live hunt we will be doing a live fishing trip. Tomorrow is my last day of work for over a week 🙏 and Monday we head out for a week of family vacation. This vacation was suppose to happen in July of 2024 but thanks to hurricane Beryl our trip was pushed back a year. Well here we are almost a year later and to say everyone's excited is a understatement. 20250529_202437.jpg

I'll be taking a pair of kayaks a pile of rods and we will be doing a ton of fishing. Henry really wants to catch a shark so that's priority number one. We will be focusing on fishing the bay with our kayaks for redfish, speckled trout, and flounder in the mornings. In the evening we will surf fish and I'll use my kayak to drop large shark baits past the breakers. 20250529_202631.jpg

What Henry dosen't know is that I've booked a 12 hour deep sea charter for just me, him, and my brother Wednesday.

I had family in south Texas, I’ve done deep sea and stilt house fishing. Both are memorable, but the stilt house is something to experience.

My buddies family owns one we use as a base camp while we fish, duck hunt, and gig flounder at night.

I should add will be staying in Surfside Beach TX and fishing the beaches and bays between there and Galveston to the north. Our boat leaves out of Galveston at 6am with a 45 minute drive to the dock it's gonna be a long day.

Took my kids on a similar trip just over a year ago off the coast of Bonaire. We caught a bunch of Red Snapper off the bottom up to almost 300 feet down and then trolled for a bit and my youngest at the time at 7 years old caught a wahoo and I got a sailfish. It was a great time that they still talk about.

About 25 years ago my dad took me and my brother on my first deep sea fishing trip from the same port we're using Wednesday. We caught a ton of snapper, amberjack, jack crevalle, king mackerel, and more. I'll never forget that day my brother hauling in a snapper the size of our coffee table, dad catching a giant king mackerel, getting back to the beach house and having him cook fresh fish, and even being allowed a half a beer. Lost my dad a few years ago and that's one of my fondest memories. Your kids might stop talking about it one day but they'll never forget.

If you want to hook a shark around Surfside, the best spot is the mouth of the Brazos River at Quintana Beach (in my opinion). It's actually called Bryan Beach. You can yak the baits out and catch blacktips and bull sharks, along with redfish and black drum right from the beach. Just be aware that the currents can be deadly so wear a life jacket if you wade.

Thank you! I've been to Quintana once but we were just driving around and not fishing. I'll have my 4x4 tacoma so we should be set. Think I'll pack a picnic and the whole family up and spend a day out there maybe Saturday and avoid the crowd at Surfside.
