A boys first deep sea fishing trip

In the organized chaos of getting my wife, SIL, and dog loaded in her car. The kids and a pile of gear in my truck I almost screwed up bad. After playing the mandatory truck bed tetris I felt good about the load got it strapped down and pulled out. I hadn't even got out of the neighborhood before I realized I hadn't loaded even one of the more then half dozen rods I planned on bringing 🤦‍♂️. Turned around took off the straps replayed tetris strapped everything back down and headed out for real this time. We will be over the Red within the hour and not long after that our first Buc-ee's stop.20250602_071844.jpg

Sorry about the lack of update yesterday it was a extremely long day. With no cell service till we got back to the dock and by then I was dead tired and had to get the boy home, fed, and in bed. It was a amazing day and Henry had a blast we bagged our limit of snapper and more. Plan on doing a better write up this evening with pics while we are shark fishing in front of the house. But my daughter has most of the day planned putt-putt, dolphin tour, shopping on the Strand, and a late lunch at the rainforest Cafe. Think we will hit the bay tomorrow morning with the kayaks and try to sack up some redfish, trout, or flounder.20250605_075227.jpg

My buddies family owns one we use as a base camp while we fish, duck hunt, and gig flounder at night.

I should add will be staying in Surfside Beach TX and fishing the beaches and bays between there and Galveston to the north. Our boat leaves out of Galveston at 6am with a 45 minute drive to the dock it's gonna be a long day.
Those used to be my old stomping grounds. I'm actually quite jealous. The surf should be pretty active this time of year, but also fishing tidal movement on the outflow of estuaries on an outgoing tide should also be fruitful.

If you want to hook a shark around Surfside, the best spot is the mouth of the Brazos River at Quintana Beach (in my opinion). It's actually called Bryan Beach. You can yak the baits out and catch blacktips and bull sharks, along with redfish and black drum right from the beach. Just be aware that the currents can be deadly so wear a life jacket if you wade.
If you don't have a kayak, just cast into the "guts" in between the sand bars. To identify those, stand up on your car, or on a sand dune, and look out. You should see some parallel lines where the waves constantly break. In between those areas, it should be deeper. Those deep guts act as fish highways this time of year.

Hell yeah, great adventures!!

He says the Brazos still runs muddy like she's run all along. There ain't never been no cane to grind, the cotton's all but gone. And you know this Chevrolet pickup truck, she was somethin' back in '60. Now there ain't nobody to listen to him 'cause they all think he's crazy.

Yea, ole Robert Earl Keen Jr is a great song writer. He couldn't carry a tune in a bucket but I still enjoy his music.
