.270 or 30-06?

I rebarreled my 30'06 to 270. I've thought about switching it back to shoot slightly larger diameter bullets of the 30'06, but it's not really worth the work. Either will work fine.

My first rifle was a Ruger M77 Lightweight .270 with the tang safety and red recoil pad, bought it for $200 off a painter who did some work for us. He'd fired it only 12 times and killed a deer, then decided he'd stick to fishing...I wore the barrel out and then sold it, that was dumb, i miss that rifle

I have both, prefer the 270. All in all, it really doesn’t matter as long as it’s coming out of a pre 64 model 70

I own both. If using for just deer sized game and smaller then stick with the .270. If you want to consider an occasional elk then it’s probably a toss up. If elk is regularly hunted then I would feel more comfortable with the heavier bullet of a 30-06. A lot of it is picking nits, though. As I said, I own both

Either will work. I've come back to a 30-06. If you handload, with today's powders its better than it has ever been. In my opinion, one of the most versatile cartridges ever designed.
