7 miles covered on foot today. Found elk tracks but no elk. Snow was deep in some places. Drove around a little after getting back to see what the roads look like. Excited for opening daylight

Did another 6.5 miles today without seeing an elk. Saw a few more tracks but nothing promising. We did see some mule deer and later met up with a group who killed one of them. Its been snowing since yesterday evening but the sun is burning stuff off. We quit walking where it was easily over a foot deep and talked to some guys who walked further up and said it was over 20" deep up the trail.
At this point, we are thinking the best play is to try to find a new spot. Not enough sign. We are going to try glassing this evening and tomorrow since the snow is making walking so difficult. Just not many areas to glass. We will see. For all the work, we are still having a good time. Really would like to lay eyes on an elk just to know they arent mythical creatures.
Great job! Nothing like a notch in an out-of-state tag! What is the success rate for your unit? I will guess 20% for a bull rifle tag. As a non-resident hunting without a guide your odds are gong to be around half of average. You definitely should be proud of this accomplishment and the long drive home is easier when the cooler has more than ice packed in it!!Just killed a spike at 40 yards. Second spot of the day was perfect. Not enough service for pictures. I'm thrilled to death.
Meat for friends and family, that’s awesome. When hunting is hard, success tastes even sweeter. May mother natures grocery’s continue to flow for you guy’s.Just killed a spike at 40 yards. Second spot of the day was perfect. Not enough service for pictures. I'm thrilled to death.
