2026 prhunter AZ Javelina

I was fortunate enough to have taken this javelina on opening day of the AZ general season. Total of four hunters in camp... everyone was able to harvest one as well. Overall... great trip like always. I was good spending time with friends and family.

That looks like a pretty good size javelina. Do you know how much meat you got off him? I shot a mature male and only got 14 pounds.

The animal weighted 34.5 pounds dressed. Ended up getting close to 14 pounds as well.

Do you do anything extra or different than normal meat handling for these guys?

I'm not set up to make it happen in AZ or NM this year to get after them but I'm interested in doing it in the next couple of years. I'd appreciate any recommendations that you would like to provide.

I guess after meat handling how do you cook them? I've heard people complain about how they smell when they're alive and make comments about needing to use the meat in things that are heavily spiced. But I don't know if that's accurate.
