2025 spring bear thread

How can you tell exactly? I'm trying to learn. I drew a bear tag for next spring and I'm soaking up all the info possible. Thanks
Sow has pointy nose and smaller paws and ankles. Big boars especially squared off nose and you’ll notice big paws, ankles and forearms

Of course it’s f@cking Priest Lake.
We usually have one every few years, my favorite is our large carnivore biologist shot one by mistake while bear hunting maybe 12 years ago, can't make that up!

I feel bad for the guy. Hard mistake.

The one that happened last year that was the reasoning behind the ID testing now was pretty funny actually. The guy called F&G looking for guidance because he couldn’t tell 100% black bear vs grizz. F&G took a look at photos and said game on bud, that’s a BB.

Ya, nope, it’s a grizz.

Has anyone shot the Underwood
44 mag .Underwood 305 gr bullets ?
If so what was the recoil like?
l have the rubber finger grips. That came off a .454 .l got the grips at a gun show.aThey seem to tame down the recoil. Shooting the Harndy 225 gr red tip bullets.

Welcome to HuntTalk.

Hoping to get the wife in the stand this weekend. Before we know it the rut will be picking up and you’ll never know what will show up. Anyone else getting out over the weekend?

I am. Leaving for a solo overnight trip. Was supposed to leave yesterday but the sickness the kids had finally caught up to me. Still kind of dragging ass but getting ready.

Earlier this week I got lucky and found this boar. Really been wanting a black phased bear ever since I started pursuing them. I was shocked at how heavy he was for only squaring about 5’7”. His teeth and attitude make me think he’s older.

I got out 3 times this week, didn't go after a good sized chocolate bear (last couple have been choc). Weather has made things weird here and am not even seeing grizzlies which I typically see everyday. Have been getting distracted by horns but that's good way to add some miles and enjoy day. I will get back after bears early next week. Good luck to those getting out
