I hope you are correct. The whole thing was predicated on the view of people wanting their involvement in government to be once every two or four years on the first Tuesday in November. You have a new Governor. Start working on him. Your view is spot on. He probably doesn't want to deal with this stuff. Mostly I would tell him to worry about the important stuff and stop the attack on hunting traditions and pissing off half his constituency. I realize continuing to be engaged in government is hard and most people will just wallow in self pity on this vote, but it change can be done.Yeah, seems like everything about the timing to try this was simply terrible.
People are coming out in force to rebuke the Trump administration and anything that could even be remotely tied to MAGA is going to get a that rebuke. That said, i'm surprised by some other results in that regard.
Also, I read that statistically people can get "initiative weary" and auto vote no when there are that many initiatives on a ballot.
Those who aren't heavily involved, and that's basically everyone, don't realize that hunting is absolutely under attack by organized groups - they are hard to overwhelmingly convince it's necessary.
Really unfortunate.
But I do think the Polis/Reis anti hunting blitz was maybe a little too hard and too fast. I think the legislature has shown legitimate concern for what a circus the commission has become and I suspect Weiser will want less boat rocking from the commission once he's in charge.
I truly hope you are right. I know this defeat will be like a dinner bell to all the national anti-hunting groups. Wayne Pacelle, Animal Wellness Action/Center for Humane Economy, Center for Biological Diversity, Wildlife for All, etc are all claiming a huge victory. We may see hunting bans on the ballot every election cycle going forward in Colorado. I am pretty “initiative weary” myself, if I’m being honest.Yeah, seems like everything about the timing to try this was simply terrible.
