2025 controlled hunts

THis year, my youth son and I have put in for all the crazy low draw odds hunts. We actually don't want to draw because he drew an AZ elk tag..... between that and the deer lease we don't have much more time unless it's something truly special

Congrats on the elk tag should be a fun time! Hoping my boy draws something this year so we can do something a bit more adventurous then deer here at home. Goodluck!

Thank you sir. We just got back from a week long scouting trip and he really enjoyed the area in unit 10. Plus we took hunters education while we there because it gets us a bonus point for every species for the rest of our life- definitely a benefit for my 14 year old son. 7 more weeks....can't wait.
Hopefully your son draws something..... any hunt you are looking at in particular? Between my son and myself we have drawn some great places here

Went for a blend of the glory hunts and some with better draw odds. High on the list are devils river and elephant mountain. I've been fortunate enough to hunt both and would love to take him.

Those hunts would be awesome. We have hunted Powderhorn and James Daughtry which are both great also.
I’m just glad they are starting to expand the youth exotic a little. It’s been only one location for a while.

The next round of draws are out and no love here. Looking forward to the next couple deadlines to see the youth results. On a side note does anyone know why unlike years past almost all my apps say not selected instead of pending 2nd draw? In fact all but one of my apps says not selected with the exception of one private land pronghorn hunt that says pending 2nd draw.

That’s because you are a total loser…just like me! That’s not just a “no” but a real “oh, hell no!”. JK I was actually wondering the exact same thing. It’s the first time in over a decade (the time I have been applying) that I have seen that. Good luck in the next rounds.

Im still trying to muster the energy to apply myself and kids for all the tx hunts this year. So many hunts, so little chance for each one. If you’re not a youth it’s barely worth the time.
Maybe pour myself a stiff cocktail and hammer it out tonight.

Good luck on the Inks Lake hunt. It’s been A Long time since I’ve been there but used to go skiing n jumping off the granite cliffs when I was a kid.

I have not hunted East Lake but have hunted Laguna multiple times.... you going to be chasing Nilgai?

That’ll be the plan. We had over 100F in January down there last season at another refuge but hopefully can catch some cooler weather this November

Nothing for me as well. I've been very fortunate this year to be drawn for the archery hunt at Aransas NWR and alligator at JD Murfree WMA. I had good success on both hunts and now a full freezer. Anything else will just be a cherry on top.

I drew an archery exotic, same exact dates as a firearm hunt I drew so probably won’t be purchasing. I can’t figure out if your points go to zero though if you draw and don’t Purchase the tag.

If you are selected for a hunt, your points go back to zero in that category even if you don't purchase the hunt.

I had actually put off getting my 2024 nilgai cleaned up and on a plaque until this week.
