That's right ladies and gentlemen it's that time of year again. Not many changes this year a few deer turkey hunts were removed or added about it. A little birdy told me 2026 will be the last year of assisted elk hunts on the Wichita NWR and then they'll switch to all walk in type hunts. Goodluck everyone!

Just started looking over the list. Might as well throw my hat into the ring and see if I can score a tag

The Oklahoma draws are being released currently. Not all portals are updated but you can back door it by checking your preferences points they have updated. Nothing for me or the whole family in our home state this year and another year with no Oklahoma elk tag😑.

I put in every for the Wichita Mtns since I have a lifetime license. Dont expect to draw a bull tag. Got to take a cow in there when I applied the first year in 92.

The draw results aren't showing and I don't see an increase of preference points for my two applications as of this morning.

Hopefully that's a good sign. My groups accounts still aren't updated but the new points are there and have 2 out of 3 unsuccessful emails for elk so far. Won't be long now.

I was drawn for 2025 - 26, either sex. Now the research and preparations begin. hoping to read about others who have recently been drawn and their experience. Maybe get a few tips and tricks and learn from the experts!

I drew a walk-in Cow Elk tag! I really wanted a bull tag, but I figured having the opportunity to actually go on the hunt is more important than holding out for a bull tag that might never arrive.
What dates did you draw for? I am working with a few others to gather a scouting report to help out where it can. I go on Feb 2, so the later reports will be my best hope.

I’m also on the Feb 2 hunt. There’s lots of videos on YouTube that folks posted about their hunts that are pretty helpful from the perspective of where they are seeing elk.

I was drawn for cow walk in last year. Shot this one on day 1 of my hunt January 13th from 405 yards. She was 5 miles from the truck and we found another parking lot access point to finish packing her out that was 4.2 miles and actually flatter than the route we originally took in. Had several encounters and saw plenty of elk. All cows I saw ran like the wind at the slightest movement and the bulls weren’t spooky at all. Recommend being ready for 300-400 yard shot, get the best pair of walking boots you can find and a solid game cart for the road portion of pack out. I used my Quietkat e-bike trailer and it was perfect. Wish you guys the best.

I hunted the refuge back in 1992 for December cow. It was a challenging hunt and very rocky broken terrain. I shot the cow at about 300 yards. It took me and dad and another camper most of the day to get it packed out before dark. I seen mostly bulls (some good ones) and a few cows. I would recommend getting in good shape for the packing part. Best of luck to those that drew.

I talked to a 66 year old man yesterday. He told me he hasn't missed a year putting in since he started when he was 16.
