This last year I had 2 New Years Resolutions (2 goals). I hit both of them !!!! One I'll leave off the boards :hump: but the other was going a whole season without loosing my license. Anyone that has ever hunted with me knows Each time I go out it seems like I'm buying a new license. I think because this year I was keeping track of my boys hunts and stuFF I was a little more organized.

Anyone else make a Resolution last year and keep it ? I'm setting up some NYR's for this year, or "goals". If anyoen else is, I hope you stick to them and achieve yer hopes !!!

How are you getting to it? What are the Mile stones you need to reach to get there? What are you doing besides saying you're going to do it ? When are you starting ? Who is doing it with you ? What's motivating you ? What's your Reward ? What will you give up if you fail ?

All things you should do to achieve your goals. WE ARE OYOA hunters.... We need to set goals to Prevail...We help each other along the way. Good luck Amigo !!!

My nyr this coming year are to hit the gym at least 4 days a week, stop drinking soda. and by the time hunting season roles around i want to be at fighting weight (195) i am at 225 now so it will be a up hill climb.....:D

2011 Goals: Graduate, and have as much (or more) fun this year as I did the last. Unfortunately those goals sometimes work against each other.

I live in a state with a lot of turkeys. Unfortunately, there are only a handful in the southeast part, so I don't know very much about turkeys. My nyr is to kill a nice gobbler in spring turkey season. I'll probably have to make a short road trip to the south-central part of the state, but only a few hours away.

For all of you that would like to “stop drinking soda” .
In my younger days , I was known as the “MountainDew Kid”. I even had a billy goat hooked on dews.
After working in a manufacturing plant for 9 years and drinking a 2 litre a day, It was time to quit both.
I quit 10 years ago and now I can’t stand the taste of soda.

Just a little tip…… anything you do through out your day, begins with a thought.
Its your mind. Take control of it.....;)

Good luck on your New Years Resolutions

My resolution each year is to work towards checking off one of the things on my life list.

Skydive - check
Run a marathon - check
Backpack Alaska - not yet
Raft the Gauley River - check
Hike the AT - not yet
Move to Montana - check
Go bonefishing - not yet
Fish New Zealand - not yet
Catch a fish in every state - slowly chipping away at it
Climb at 20,000ft mountain - not yet

Plan on fishing the west coast this year and hopefully Utah and Texas. If I'm lucky, I'll make a trip to Alaska, but that'll probably have to wait until 2012

Something simple, I'm going to get to the top of Mt Borah. I'm hiking the first weekend in August, unless work gets in the way. I'm gonna be the only fat kid on the top.

We all have our lists. Some qualify as resolutions and some don't. Whether or not we make our lists on January 1st or some other time is really not important. Goals, resolutions or whatever you call them are useless without a plan. I've heard a few times that "to have no plan is a plan for failure." The next step can be described with this familiar quote "a journey begins with the first step." Success depends, therefore, on having a plan and then working toward its fulfillment. He's another quote I heard once, "WWWWWWWW". Give up? Work will work when wishy washy wishing won't. There is a bumper sticker that says "he who dies with the most toys wins". Wins what? Treasures on earth stay here when we die. Life is a time for self improvement. I've had my share of youthful earthly treasures and still harbor some, but at 64 I'm getting more concerned with "treasures in heaven where moth and rust doth not corrupt". My most important goal is to be able to recognize the promptings of the spirit and to have the gumption to do what I'm told, and, then, to spend the rest of the time chasing around Montana as much as possible. Just so you know I'm human. Also, spend more time with friends and family, getting outdoors as much as allowable, being happy with what I have, and a whole bunch of other stuff.

huntRme...... Funny you brought that up. I'm writing a book right now about setting goals and achieving them. Some of that info is in there :D

I'm excited for this year. Good times to be had all around !!!!

Mine include:

Get into shape and be prepared to pack 100+ lbs of gear/meat for miles before I "have" to. I plan on doing a lot of hiking this summer, with a minimum of 50lbs on my back, and plan on adding weight as the summer progresses. My goal is 4-6 miles 3x a week to include 1500 or more vertical.

Put more money away towards hunting trips. Taxidermy is expensive. ;)

my nyr......scout a little harder
hunt a little higher
hunt a little longer and go 4.7 seconds on a bull named fu man chu.....

2011 Resolution: Keep my self from jumping off a bridge...or into oncoming traffic...or out of an aircraft sans parachute...or suck starting a firearm...

If I can accomplish that, I think I'll get more hunting/fun time in '11 than I did in '10.

I have to get my archery shooting under control. I have missed 3 of the last 4 critters I have shot at. Not talking about a near miss either. I am talking in the dirt 2 feet below them. It is painful. Need to settle down.

I also want to find this guy again and then carry him out of the woods in little pieces.

I've had same issues...................you need to find a place like here where you can shoot 7 does a year and that is what has helped me get those jitters out:) There have been countless nights that i have actually emptied my quiver, gone down to get my arrows and climb back up to shoot more..............at least now, there is usually a critter dead at the end of every shot instead of the misses.

ID, never been there, gonna take the directions from Mackay and hike the non mountaineering route. It's not a big goal, but in order to feel like I can do it, I'm going to have to spend less time looking at horn porn on the internet. If I set a time now, I've got time to spend more of it outside looking, and less inside, looking at.
