2009 New Mexico Auction Tag Buck

Here's Mike Gallo with his buck that he took on his New Mexico Statewide Auction Tag.

He green scored just a shade over 90.

If you don't already know, the tag in NM is a combo tag that allows you to hunt 5 species (elk, deer, antelope, ibex, oryx). I believe Mike stole the tag for somewhere between 50 and 60k (can't remember which). Also, in NM you're allowed to sell any of the individual tags post auction. I believe Mike sold the elk tag for around 30-35k, so all-in-all I don't believe he's got too much money wrapped up in the antelope tag (or deer, ibex, and oryx for that matter).

Wow, "only" 90, I would have guessed slightly bigger, but I suck at judging antelope. He sure is a beauty; especially the way the tops hook back. Like was said earlier, you ought to call him the Bottletop buck.

Grady: Comparatively speaking it was a steal (as are many items these days). Last year the same package sold for around 170k. Anywho...you could always become a professional pooper scooper - I hear they make bank!

We had named the buck "Diamond". His right horn does kind of resemble a can opener of sorts, though.
