Yep the old gal is 100 years old and still getting it done.

Iv thought about other cartridges but when I look at the numbers it’s just too close to the .270. The idea of reloading smaller 100g-120grain bullets keeps me from the well loved 25-06. About the only time a grab a bigger bullet is above 150grain and that’s usually a 180g in 30-06.

What doesn't it do?

Howdy, so are we talking about a Great cartridge 270WIN still going strong for 100 Years.
OR What Doesn't it Do....

I like the 270win and some Wildcats l have built with 277/ 270 Bullets.

I built a 270-08 a few years back, it's a necked down 308win. Great cartridge a lot of Fun with 85gr to 133gr bullets.

I built a 270 Rum. It's a necked down
7 Remington Ultra Mag. Great cartridge and a lot of Fun with 125gr to 170gr. Berger OTM.

What Doesn't it Do.?????? .👍😃

It’s been my primary hunting cartridge the last 10 years. Hope to take another deer and elk with it this year.

Oh man that .270 rum sounds crazy what’s the muzzle velocity?!
Iv thought about a .270 weatherby for a blazing fast .277.

Done had one since I was 14. It is my cartridge of choice when I reach in the safe for all my whitetail hunting.

When I was 12 my dad told me he was going to let me choose the hunting rifle I wanted, but it had to be a bolt action .270. I chose a Ruger M77 Mark ii and it’s still one of my favorite rifles. Shoots 130 CX Superformance loads 1 MOA consistently. I’m going to have to try to get a deer with it this year since it’s the 100th anniversary of the cartridge.

Hard to beat the old .270, ammo is everywhere too in a pinch. 130 and 150gn loads often shoot similar enough at 100 yds to not affect scope zero. Love mine

It's a 26" Douglas Barrel 8twt screwed on to a Rem 700 trued. Action.
170gr Berger OTM max= 3432fps. Heavy bolt lift. Dialed in at 3300fps, N-570 powder.
130gr. Swift Scirocco = 3720fps. Heavy bolt lift. Dialed in at = 3600fps, H-1000 powder.
Will be testing Cutting Edge Maximus bullet in 125gr. Sometime this year.
Probably be a little faster than the 130 SS.

My favorite caliber of choice! Jack O’Connor helped put it on the map with a lot of his writings and stories a field.

The .270 was my 1st rifle, acquired at the age of around 10. My dad bought this as "shared" rifle for my sister and I to use as she just passed hunters safety and was eligible to hunt the following year. To this day she probably couldn't pick it out of the lineup in the safe or tell you what model it is, something that we have always joked about. My dad bought it at Walmart in the late 90's, A Remington Model 700 ADL with the fanciest walnut Monte Carlo stock that i've seen to date on any ADL. I have taken; deer, elk, antelope, coyotes, prairie dogs etc. and it is always a favorite I reach for on special hunts. There are many, many more rifles in the safe these days, several that cost multitudes of what that Walmart price tag read, but I don't think that any will replace the memoires and lessons I have learned afield with that Model 700. Oh I don't think I mentioned that this gun shoots lights out. I've built custom rifles with expensive carbon fiber barrels and thousand dollar scopes etc. and none shoot as good as this stock Remington with the Leupold 3X9X40. Long Love the 270 Winchester!

That is a fine looking rifle. Amazing that it would shoot that accurately with such a wide swing in velocity, but the proof is in the pudding I guess

I think some rifles just have a magic combination of barrels, headspace, harmonics etc. that just all line up sometimes and work together, whether you planned it that what or not! That rifle shot 90gr sierras & 110 VMAX’s at scandalous velocity. None as tight as those 140 VLD’s but an honest 1/2” and well under MOA. It’s a special rifle.

My first rifle was a Ruger M 77 .270. Ruger because it was all I could afford, and .270 because I grew up on Jack O'Connor. An onery horse in front of mine kicked back and dinged the stock on the way out of elk camp, which I regarded as a badge of honor. It blocked my tibia from the kick, so there's that, too.
