    Moose Growl???

Growl noise is bad news. I heard it two years ago when I accidentally pushed a mama moose and a calf into the edge of a thick drainage -- they had nowhere to go. I had no idea that I had cornered them until I was within ~30ft. She growled twice at me, and I don't care to hear that noise...

    Appreciation for Good Hunting Partners...

Agree with the sentiment here. It's difficult because I put a lot of effort into my relationships with others. This situation caught me by surprise. Although when I discussed this with Friend Y, he mentioned that I should have read into it a little more when they abandoned the tracking job to...

    Appreciation for Good Hunting Partners...

Had a moment this evening where I was reminded about how special good hunting partners are... I apologize in advance for the long rant. Need to get it off my chest. Had a friend (let's name him "Friend X") introduce me to elk hunting 6-7yrs ago. He set me up on a good late season public land...

Comfortable Boots That Won't Break Bank

I have routinely found Salomon Quest boots on sale. I am wearing a pair of Origins right now that I picked up for $150 on Amazon, and I'm very happy with them. The Vasque St. Elias is an excellent boot as well for a similar price.

    Chainsaw Recommendation

I'm leaning toward the MS170, but I love buying stuff that I won't have to replace down the road if I get the itch to push things a bit further. The MS271 is hard to pass up... I'm guessing buying from the dealer is the best way to go for something like a chainsaw. That said, there are some...

    Chainsaw Recommendation

Lots of great input, guys! I'm going to shift my focus back to the Stihl's. Hard to argue with firsthand experience.

    Chainsaw Recommendation

Looking for recommendations... I'm looking for saw to handle basic trail clearing and firewood duties while at camp. I live in the suburbs, so the only time I get to play with a chainsaw is during camping and hunting season. I get on a lot of sketchy 4x4 trails, and a chainsaw is a must-have...

    New Fly Fisherman in CO

This is great advice. Wooly buggers and leeches are skunk busters in your early days of fly fishing. They get eaten despite your drifts. I also started with a St Croix Avid, and it's an excellent rod that'll use for years. Go with a guide or a seasoned friend and make sure that you learn...

    No 6x tippet here

Great pictures! I'm a fly-fishing guy at heart, but I've spent more and more time this year on warm water (using both spin and fly gear). Anything that allows you to spend more time in the woods or on the water is a good thing. Some folks are missing out on golden opportunities (many of them...

    Podcast - request for topics

The episode with Shannon and Vito was excellent. You may have covered it in bits or pieces in other threads, but I am beginning to think you may need to dedicate an episode for a Civics for Sportsmen lesson (this might be more suitable for youtube). If we can better understand how ideas...

    Podcast - request for topics

Being a public land archery hunter in Colorado, I am having more and more interactions with mountain bikers (and dirt bikers), trail runners, and other recreationalists. These encounters aren't always 1mi from the road, but instead are sometimes 2-4+ miles back into the units I hunt. I'm also...

    New Recruit -- Intro

Hello Everyone! Randy's podcasts have made their impression, and I converted from lurker to participant. It's time to heed the call to advocate for hunting, conservation, and public lands. I'm not afraid to muck it up in the political arena, and I hope I can convince others to join me. A...
