Guide recommendations for MT spring bear (not full blown outfitter hunt)?
I'd look at Cody Carrs operation in Plains for your first hunt. After you learn what your doing you can do a DIY every year. Cody is a great guy. As stated there are no guides that are not affiliated with outfitters as it is illegal in MT.- montanaelk31

Calder Mtn lodge is a great place to stay as I had the Kuiu tag last year. Keeps you in your budget and you can fish til noon. Fishing is really a fun way to pass the morning. Montana guy here, drew archery unit 49 with a buddy in Colorado. 4th state I will have hunted elk in. Love taking our "show" on the road. So we have a bunch of experience in OTCs and have done pretty well.. Feel like we can find where elk should be, and call them in. Yes, 49 is a draw but...- montanaelk31

Which week of rifle season would you hunt Montana?
More elk are killed on the last week in my area... I would definitely say the last week is the best. You just have to miss thanksgiving dinner- montanaelk31

Bugle report from the Gila, New Mexico.
Hey all. I'm the lucky winner of a Gila archery hunt that starts the 15th. Was wondering how those bulls are looking like and sounding down there? Have the elk been affected by the drought, horn growth, delayed rut? Any info would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance!!- montanaelk31

Hey Guy- Good research and great first post. My first recommendation would be to buy On X. Use the phone app and get rid of the GPS. Also if you are archery elk hunting, buy the UEH course for elk hunting from elk101. (these 2 tools are vital to killing an elk, not so much finding an elk)...- montanaelk31

New Mexico Draw 2018
Congrats! Not a lot of info on this unit but I feel pretty fortunate to have drawn. The southwest usually means find water, find elk. Which is something I’ve never had to worry about here in the jungles of MT. Gonna be fun, good luck!- montanaelk31
