I completely disagree that boots on the ground is a requirement. And I understand that most people don't have an extra week to scout. I hunt 2-3 states per year for the last 12 years. Guide recommendations for MT spring bear (not full blown outfitter hunt)?
I'd look at Cody Carrs operation in Plains for your first hunt. After you learn what your doing you can do a DIY every year. Cody is a great guy. As stated there are no guides that are not affiliated with outfitters as it is illegal in MT.- montanaelk31

Montana guy here, drew archery unit 49 with a buddy in Colorado. 4th state I will have hunted elk in. Love taking our "show" on the road. Which week of rifle season would you hunt Montana?

Bugle report from the Gila, New Mexico.

Hey Guy- Good research and great first post. My first recommendation would be to buy On X. Use the phone app and get rid of the GPS. Also if you are archery elk hunting, buy the UEH course for elk hunting from elk101. (these 2 tools are vital to killing an elk, not so much finding an elk)...- montanaelk31

Congrats! Not a lot of info on this unit but I feel pretty fortunate to have drawn. The southwest usually means find water, find elk. Which is something I’ve never had to worry about here in the jungles of MT. Gonna be fun, good luck!- montanaelk31
