Thanks for your thoughts and encouragement everyone. Really, really appreciated. Leaning toward spot 2 to start and spot 1 for day hunting on Mon/Tues if I don't get anything because spot 2 would be really hard to day hunt. There doesn't look to be any major weather on the horizon before the...
Thanks for the replies everyone. I have mine on order. I just hope the turtle-speed-processing at Kifaru gets it to me on time for my first hunt of the year.
Nameless, I just want to compliment you on a few things:
1) Obviously, great job and great hunt. Congratulations on a beautiful animal. I'd kill (an elk) for that opportunity :)
2) You're a really outstanding writer. The story would have been great even with a dryly written report, but your...
WORDY POST WARNING- thanks in advance for reading this overly detailed post and thanks even more for any advice you have!
So, I’m having some serious indecision on my hunt plan for 1st rifle in Colorado. Something that I’ve been thinking about a lot is that literally every decision you make...
Anyone have thoughts on the sitka gun sling vs. the kifaru gun bearer? They seem pretty similar. I didn't know Sitka even made one until I was poking around on the internets. I've heard good things about the gun bearer but haven't used either.
Would love to hear any thoughts from people who...
I’m no expert and I don’t have 15s or 18s, but it seems to me if you want 12s as your chest bino then get 18s for the tripod. Difference between 12s and 15s doesn’t seem big enough to me to justify carrying two sets of binos.
Yes, I'm constantly changing my thinking in the lead up to my hunts. The only thing I don't want to happen is for me to make some funky plan change on a whim during the season, because I've done that before with less than stellar results.
Hi all,
I'm trying to put my first Muley buck on the ground during 2nd rifle in CO this year. I'm 0/2 so far. I feel pretty good about the scouting and work I've put in this year- much more than in years past. One thing I'm struggling with is finding beds. I also elk hunt and I have a pretty...
I don't know that unit, so I can't help there. My $.02 is that if you can afford the hundred bucks, why not?!? I'll be picking up a concurrent bear tag and when I'm out during 1st rifle for elk and 2nd rifle for deer, I'll happily take a nice bear if I come across one.
Three years ago I didn't...
I draw every year for elk so have no points, but I'm building a few mule deer points and it seems to me that 3-4 is a sweetspot until you get up to 12-15+, at least for deer. Guessing Elk may be similar.
Same. Planning on picking up a "concurrent rifle" tag for when I'm out on my 1st, 2nd, and maybe 4th season rifle hunts. Had I not been a dummy last year and had one, I would have taken one easily.
I will say, I'm not big on the idea of packing a bear out 5 miles, so it will depend on where I...
This may sound silly to some, but the main reason is that I'm hoping to feed my 2 year old and and my wife who will be breastfeeding an infant with the meat I (hopefully) harvest. It's actually a big thing for my wife- she does not at all like the idea of even tiny bits of lead potentially in...
