Your favorite Cover Song of all time

This Scottish singer-songwriter released this hit in 1966. He wrote it after a marriage proposal was declined. Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones were session musicians on the track.

Born Henry John Deutschendorf Jr. (1943–1997) in Roswell, New Mexico. He was raised by his parents, Erma Louise (née Swope) and Captain Henry John "Dutch" Deutschendorf Sr., a stern U.S. Air Force pilot. He grew up in a military family that moved often, alongside his four siblings, three brothers and a sister, which made it hard for him to feel settled. He got his start at age 11 when his grandmother gave him an acoustic guitar. He performed locally, joined folk groups like The Chad Mitchell Trio, and launched a solo career in 1969.He wrote hits like Take Me Home, Country Roads, Rocky Mountain High, and Annie’s Song (composed in just 10 minutes!). He could play guitar, piano, and more and had three children, two adopted with his first wife Annie Martell, and one with his second, Cassandra Delaney. He was a passionate environmentalist and humanitarian, an avid pilot, and the only artist to have two state songs. Despite his massive commercial success, dozens of hit songs, 12 gold and 4 platinum albums, millions of records sold, and iconic songs like Take Me Home, Country Roads and Rocky Mountain High, the Grammy Awards largely ignored him during his peak.He won one Grammy (posthumously) and left a lasting legacy.
