It was looking bleak in September, my Utah elk hunt was a bust. The freezer was nearly empty, a few ducks and a goose from last year, half a turkey, one antelope roast, a few pounds of mixed ground meat, and some fish. My daughter kept asking for elk meat. My role as provider for the family was being put to an extreme test.

So I threw, and caught a Hail Mary, picked up a Colorado 1st season tag and scored the first morning. Now my freezer looks like this, what a relief! While I was cutting up the elk my daughter kept asking for steaks, so we had some fresh grilled backstrap, man it was good.

Here's a couple of photos of the elk, I got real lucky and he came trotting right at me, guessing he was bumped by some other hunters. I've been way overdue for some dumb luck and it finally arrived, just in time!

Congrats. Always nice when the ball bounces your way.

Yes, but it took 45 days of elk hunting starting in 2020 before I caught a break, sure hope it doesn't take that long for the next one!
