Congrats mate, that is a heck of a buck for Wyoming. Big white tails are certainly around, but not many people get one that size.

Closer shots typically result in more explosive expansion not in less than normal so I can’t imagine that’d be the case. You said bonded bullet... accubond/interbond/fusion?
I’ve seen weird stuff; the only thing 100% predictable about bullet performance is that it’s not 100% predictable and each circumstance is totally unique.
I like mono bullets for certain circumstances, but have generally found they lack the explosive reaction that can put an animal down super fast. They don’t damage as much meat tho, so there’s a trade off.
