If successful in the draw,i plan on hunting unit 21 archery elk.It is a unit that gets a lot of pressure but holds good numbers of elk and has good access. Like most elk areas ,you get one ridge over from a horse trail or road and you are into elk country.

I'll hopefully be heading back to the same area I hunted last year. I've got a Type 1 for the area as my first choice (longshot) and an archery only tag as second choice (better odds).

Had a cow tag last year. If successful in the draw, I'll be hunting horns this year.

Ok so now I'm a little panicked. I'm a resident of WY this year and now concerned about that entire area. I'm in Cheyenne so that's going to be go to. Should I be worried?

The only thing you need to be worried about is getting a good pack that you can haul elk quarters with...

Every year a different unit or two get lots of press from NR's. This year it's 21 and 45. Year before it was 38. Next year it will be something else. Don't sweat it, go hunt.

We are all set to go (8 of us) and should draw with 1.25 PP. Pretty excited and I am sure there will be hunters, but most places do.

If not succeaaful in the draw,I will be looking at a type 6 leftover somewhere with good public land access. There are many good units that I can enjoy a good hunt in.Would like to stay close to Colorado border if possible.

Are you still going in archery season if it comes down to a Type 6?

That's a big group! I bet that would be a blast. Best of luck to you all.

We are really two groups of 4, but I got lazy when I posted it. We know each other and will camp by each other and will help each other out but will hunt separate.

Does anyone know the earliest (in the calendar year) documented case of elk fever? I am starting to feel something coming on (like a freight train).:D

Mine is chronic, I've had this disease for years and I'm pretty sure its terminal!
