Wyoming private roads ….

The people who were the worst owned maybe 200 feet of the road as it passed their property, open range , cattle gates .
I wasn’t hunting their property, just using the road to access BLM .
So, just to clarify, that is still trespassing. And therefore the answer to my question would be "yes". You're mad that people got mad that you were trespassing.

If it's a county road, you're fine. We have a county road that goes through our ranch. We have it posted accordingly - stay on road next 2 miles. You'd be surprised how many people pull off the road and even kill animals (had two guys kill an antelope and mule deer buck while clearly on our ranch).

We have private roads in our ranch and every season we have guys driving around in the middle of the ranch thinking they are on public and can access whatever they want.

It’s not always clear. Especially when it’s a private road through public lands and the road isn’t posted. Some private roads are heavily traveled for all kinds of purposes but the minute a hunter uses it they have a problem. It’s kinda crappy situation.
I’m not advocating trespassing so don’t jump on me.

Unit 108 in Wyoming is classic. Even if it says it’s state land, it does not necessarily mean you can drive down the road. However, if you’re the leaseholder of the state land, you very well can drive down this road. Pay attention when it said Road closed, that only applies to the public.
I know of a property owner right now. That is telling everybody one time, if you drive past the road close sign, they will probably give you a warning, if they catch you twice or you give them shit when they try and tell you you can’t drive on this area then they will turn you in and you’ll be given a ticket.

To my understanding is that just because there is a road doesn't mean anyone can access it because it is privately owned. Just like you couldn't take a SxS down a field path or across the property to access public.

It's the same in every state. You still have to gain permission to utilize someone's land even if it is only to travel on to get to where you have permission to be.

It might have been Randy that did a video about where someone took their camper across someone else's property that was only a few feet wide to get to their own property and that owner won a civil court case for trespassing and damages.

So the argument is that in the past someone has committed a crime on a private road , so everyone has to suffer not having access to BLM ?
Seems like the same argument the anti gun groups use ?
No, that is not true. Methinks you may benefit from private property rights Lessson#1, a study of private, county, state, and federal roads, and the history of public lands of the west.
Closely consider the "checkerboard" ownership history and current issues. Your reasoning seems to miss critical important information.

No, you are straight-up trespassing. It's not a hard concept. A private road is a private road. You cannot access public land from a private road without written permission. A though process like this contributes to ranchers being hesitant to allow access.

Charlie Bob,

It's a private road. That means you can't use it unless expressly allowed by the person or persons who own it.

It sucks, yes, but that's how the whole public/private thing works out. If it were a county road, a FS road, a BLM designated route or even a private road with a public access easement, then you'd have a legitimate gripe.

As it appears, you trespassed.

Even though it's aggravating to have landlocked public lands we have to do our best to respect private property rights. Hunters can get a bad image if we feel we can trespass through areas to get where we want.
