For those that have been following this, WYBHA has been opposing this land exchange for the past couple years. Its really a bad deal for the public. Long and short is we would lose access to some quality ground with both hunting and fishing in exchange for Land the WSLI is going to sell for home development. We would lose access to a reservoir that has good fishing as well.

BHA has tried to negotiate, but is largely getting nowhere. I believe its headed for the land board for vote, thus the meeting below:

For those interested in attending, see below:

The Columbus Peak Ranch Land Exchange is once again being considered by the Wyoming Office of State Lands and Investments. Please come out to the Sheridan County Fairgrounds on October 4, 2023 from 5:30 to 8:30 to attend and provide public feedback on this important public land issue for hunter and angler access.

But @buzz, the new property has a public road through it! No need to hike anymore... lol

Though I would have never guessed there to be legal access to the State land to begin with. How does one find out about these easements?

How did the hearing go?

Update on this one, the Columbus Peak land exchange was voted down by the State land board 3-1 today.

One of BHA's board co-chairs worked for a long time and spent a ton of hours to get sportsmen a fair shake and was successful.

Chalk another one up for the good guys.

Sheridan County residents applauded state officials Thursday after they voted to reject a land swap near Dayton that would have put state-owned mountain-front acreage in private hands in exchange for a sagebrush prairie lot.

The Wyoming Board of Land Commissioners voted 3-1 in favor of Auditor Kristi Racines’ motion to reject the Columbus Peak Ranch exchange proposal. State Treasurer Curt Meier cast the lone vote in favor of the swap.

Secretary of State Chuck Gray and Superintendent of Public Instruction Megan Degenfelder joined Racines to kill the exchange as proposed. Gov. Mark Gordon, chairman of the board, did not vote. He did not offer an explanation, but rules allow him to abstain when there is not a tie vote among the other commission members.
