Wyoming elk 2025

I was super excited to have another Wyoming elk tag in my pocket this year. Both my boys had tags last year and we had a great hunt. I decided to try a different area this year. We backpacked in several miles the day before the opener to an area I had scouted this Summer. Worked like a charm. Opening morning we heard bugling below us. About 30 minutes later this bull came out with his cows and I couldn't pass him up. My only disappointment with Wyoming elk hunts is they never seem to last long enough.

Awesome elk! Congrats! Did you hunt pressure (escape routes, etc), or make a plan that avoided pressure?

What cartridge, distance, etc? I like details as I live vicariously through others

I was hoping we were far enough off the beaten path to avoid the pressure. That was not the case. I think it's pretty hard to avoid pressure with a general tag in most areas. I think we got lucky and were just in the right place at the right time. This bull came out at 120 yards and I was using my 28 Nosler.

Yeah, I’m about to burn 6 years worth of points for next season and I think that your summation is what I have come to grips with. That many points won’t likely get me anything that will be less pressured, so I’m likely to go general as well. I really don’t care about trophy quality going in, I’m more interested in the experience. I think that all western general hunts are going to have pressure.

No problem at all. If you can figure out how the pressure is going to affect the elk, you can use it to your advantage. The problem is it can take a few years to figure that out. Makes it difficult when the tag only comes around once every 5-7 years. That's one of the reasons why I try to space it out between me and my boys so we don't all have tags the same year.
