I somehow pulled the 1 random tag for Wyoming Unit 80. I am hoping to talk with some people who have hunted it or spent time there about my plans, animal #’s, etc. Plan is to stick to the west side around Clark. I’ve also been told to keep an ear out for rattlers. I’ve always just given them their space with no problems. Thanks!

Also, what do I need to know about hunting Bureau of Reclamation land? It is my understanding it is open to hunting without any addition payment/fee.

Hi, How was your Unit 80 Hunt? I've a Unit 80 archery cow tag for Sept. 2023.
Travelling from Indiana.

Well let’s hear the antelope story then!
Fair enough....

I got into my unit the day after opener but it was mid week so I wasn't worried. My plan was to get it done in the first few days so I could turn my attention to my MT Breaks rifle tag. Between a neat Horned Lizard, an arrow head, and getting to hunt the antelope rut, I was having a blast the first few days but not seeing any bucks I was interested in.

At the end of the week, I found a buck I was happy with, took a shot and hit him(saw blood), but he seemed to not be very affected by it(keeping his does, fighting off other bucks). This bugs the question, What do you do in this instance...You drew blood but he seems to be doing well and looks like he'll live, do you cut your tag? Hard pill to swallow, none the less. After looking for an evening and morning for him and some internal fighting, I decided I would go home, regroup and be back at some point.

I was back a week later, right to the spot I had hit the buck prior. I felt obligated to look more and try to turn him up dead or injured... no luck. @Roadgoat met me around noon and we drove some wonderful(sarcasm) BLM roads we turned up a nice buck from the highway and decided to make a stalk. With the goat facing us but the sun at our backs, we started our stalk coving as much ground as possible with the sun helping blind the goat. After hugging a badlands type face and crawling through the cactus we got to 400 yards and ran out of cover. A few shot later, and after a week of ups and down, I had an amazing goat on the ground. The taxidermist rough scored him around 78"
