Big gator clocks out near Bossier City print shop

The night shift at Custom Printed Products has a nightmare of a story to tell their families.
About 1 a.m. Thursday, seven pressmen lassoed the top jaw of an alligator during their break.
The beast was lurking in a cement drainage culvert running under the road of the industrial park where the print shop is located.
"There were some big men," said Stacy Brown, a night supervisor at the print shop. A gator sighting earlier this week led them to believe it was just 5 feet long.
The men reasoned they could contain the smallish reptile until animal control arrived to relocate it.
Wishful thinking.
After a failed attempt involving chicken, rope and truck, the men heaved a male alligator — 11 feet, 9 inches long — from the culvert.
"We were all looking at each other thinking, 'Now what?'" Brown said.
The gator hissed and death-rolled. The men secured the other end of the rope and called 911.
Police responded and turned the incident over to the Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Department.
A licensed nuisance hunter arrived on the scene shortly after 3 a.m. and shot the gator, according to Brown. "That thing could have eaten us."
The pressmen feel bad about the outcome, but it's a story that will buzz about the print shop for years to come.
"That is right up there with the stupidest thing I've ever done," Brown said.
Richard Nicholson, president of Custom Printed Products, is just happy his employees made it through the night.
"If one of them had gotten injured, I was going to have a hell of a time explaining this to the workers' comp people. No more gator hunting on the clock."
