There’s a lot of good advice, but I think I can add some specifics. If you want to do this more than once, then educate yourself. Sign up for GoHunt and read the articles and use the tools online. Leverage the copious information on YouTube about the draws and western hunting. There are also great books on specific species. If you just want to try this out, I would recommend you going with a reputable outfitter. The best chance of going this year or next will be in Montana with an outfitter because you can buy 2 preference points when signing up through them. Good outfitters should already be booked, so buy a point this year and book with one for next year and you’ll go into the draw guaranteed for 2026 with 3 points.
