When SHTF

I agree with this. I am by no means a prepper except for guns, aren't we all to an extent. I think having weapons, ammo and food are important as you would have a means to defend yourself and your family but also your resources that you might have as well, like maybe a cattle farmer and his cattle, etc. I think you would have to worry about some of the people that live here already trying to steal resources and without the public services we have in place people probably be more willing to take matters into their own hands. I agree with the comment that it would be easier for a country to destroy itself other than some red dawn event. I think all of the electronic transactions/processes we utilize without thinking twice would be one of the first things to go. If someone were to hack and destroy the infrastructure and people's money would be gone and if you wouldn't have a physical cache of money you would have to barter or be sol. All of these things, sorry to say could probably happen. It's a scary world we live in that's for sure.
If there is no law, does stealing become obtaining?

Obtaining, procuring, being resourceful whatever you want to call it I suppose. I would want to defend what I have. Take the cattle example. We have a farm with almost 20 cattle. If I were someone in need of food, I would go after the farms with cattle and other resources like chickens, etc.

There is not a country on this earth more difficult to successfully invade than the US. Yes, we could get bombed, or hit with missiles, but an invading army, it's not going to happen.
It would be how the Hostomel Airport turned out for the Russian VDV on a mass scale.

If $hit really hits the fan, I”ll be packing a camping bag, water filters, and my short mag with plenty of ammo and heading to the high country.

I’m going to shoot the living $hit out of the big bucks and rams while you Nancy’s are preoccupied killing each other for food, fleshlight batteries, and shampoo.
Bro what have you been typing in so much it auto corrects to fleshlight?

Manually powered sex toys only in the apocalypse. We gotta ration stuff out.

I never understood the whole “if SHTF, I need 5k rounds of ammo and 90 guns!” Who/what do they think they’re shooting?

Stock up on water, non perishable foods, and fuel. There are real world examples of shtf right now (Gaza, Ukraine, etc.) and these are the items those people are desperate for.

There used to be a show on the TV that featured a different prepper each week. One had a guy who liked explosives. He at one point had blown off his thumb while playing with explosives. He insisted that knowing how to handle explosives might be vital in a survival situation. I was thinking that maybe a thumb might be vital in a survival situation.

I have a friend who was a crane operator for a while. He did a job on a piece of property just north of the California border. The owner was building underground bunkers in the woods. He told my friend that he belonged to a group that was preparing for the apocalypse. He said the first thing they would do when the shit hits the fan is blow up all the bridges along the Oregon California border in order to keep the Mexicans out. My friend never did ask why they thought an apocalyptic event would include an invasion from Mexico but apparently it will. I'm a little surprised he told my friend all their plans because my friend is short, dark complected and speaks with a Hispanic accent, but I guess he felt that maybe he was one of the good ones.

The first thing I thought of was, "Great! Now we will probably have a major earthquake, and these yahoos will think it's the apocalypse and blow up all the bridges that would allow the would-be rescuers to get here with help.

Yup, we have several wells , one on solar with 20k gallon reserve for domestic and fire suppression. A couple dead accurate rifles and a few handguns that I would be safer never touching.

We live as subsistence as we can - not as much as some of you all looks like.
But I do need to stock pile a bit more ammo and a bit more basic dry goods.

We are already pretty remote but our winters would be the hard part - house is too big for a cold winter - have really thought about having a smaller shed/barn that would be cheaper and easier to heat. We do have the wood stove but it is in the largest room in the house so not much help there unless we curtained everything off with heavy blankets and drapes.

Thought about it a little but not too much.

I like to tell those prepper guys they will probably get shot while they are trying to remember how to work all the gadgets they've attached to their tactical weapons.
Yea, they take a lightweight easy to handle perfectly fine AR and put lights, sirens, scopes, 100 round drum magazines, and turn it into an 18 pound cumbersome mess.
