Actually my buddy in Havre uses a Marlin 45-70. I scoffed at him having too much gun ... till I helped him skin a muley buck. Almost no bloodshot on either side. That big slug did a very neat and tidy job of putting down a deer while not making a mess of it.

.270, despite the fact I’ve never even used a .270 to hunt deer. I’ve used a 20 gauge, 30-30, 7-08, 7RM...and I’d have to say the .270 is the best overall pure deer cartridge.

That's what I've used in the past, specifically a Marlin 1895. My 30-06 was more practical. But I like leverguns.

Tell me more. I don’t have experience with these smaller calibers (and clearly copy/pasted a bass pro chart from the internet). I honestly do want to know what your thoughts are.
