Actually my buddy in Havre uses a Marlin 45-70. I scoffed at him having too much gun ... till I helped him skin a muley buck. Almost no bloodshot on either side. That big slug did a very neat and tidy job of putting down a deer while not making a mess of it..45-70 lever action!

I have had a lot of success with this caliber myself!Jack O'Connor loved his 270 and that man knew his rifles.
