... or have you done to get what you want ?

This could go from anywere from what did you do to get your wife to what did you sacrifice to buy a truck or business ?

Anyone have a past story ?

Anyone have a Future story ?

I sold my traps and stretcher's 42 years ago to buy my wife her engagement ring. After we were married I ended up owning twice as many traps . Lifes good ;)

...sold my mint 95th Anniversary Heritage Springer to start my youngest daughter in college.

Since Moosie is in the same Boat, here is what I have done to get my business going. in 1992 the company I worked for left town and I bought the Drafting Equipment, rented a Small Office Downtown and called myself Geological Drafting Consultants. Everything was Pen and Ink back then, so it took awhile to do a Map or Prospect Package, my first month I think I made around $300.00! So, instead of waiting on jobs to come in I went door to door and introduced myself. When you start out you get all the "Snakes" people who are just making up prospects and selling them so that even if a well is dry, they make money. One of these companies did some work with me and the Geologist skipped town with my money....so I went to their office and got a line of bull from the Head Honcho, until I asked him if he wanted to see my new toy? When I pulled out a Five shot Pistol and asked him if he collected guns, his face became kinda contorted and he "Thought they could cover my Invoice". It still gets a laugh out of my clients when we talk war stories like that! John

My biggest mistake in our business was not paying your self. sure we took out what you needed to live, but we put everything back into the business. double payments on machines, every job we got we bought separate tooling just for that job, so if we got it again we would save 2-10 hours of set up time.
everything went great and perfectly we had it made 4 more months and everything was ours, no payments nothing. then 911 hit. took our industry out in 5 months and I have nothing to show for it.

word of advice, take 10% to 20% out of every check and put it away in cash, if we would have done this we could have paid everything off when 911 happened and have a damn good business now.
as they say we learn by our mistakes.

on getting payments haha I been ripped off more than once from 30 net customers when I say ripped off I dont mean getting the money in 90 days to 6 months either, I mean just flat out refuse to pay.

I did get one guy back. I went to his house listened to his line of bs through through his screen door( he wouldnt come outside) then punched him in the face through the door, and told him he wouldnt have a moments peace till I got my money. his mom and dad came to the shop 2 days later and paid the 3500 bucks he owed me.

Thats funny about the new toy. I was sitting in the office talking to april one day eating and apple, I had a knife in my hand. a sales man comes in and I told him to leave cause I wasnt interested. someone who we bought a machine from long ago and there service sucked. so I told him never to set foot in the door or I would kick his ass. I guess the arguement got a little heated, the next thing I know the machine company calls me up and says they are terminating my machine loan do to I threatend the sales men with a knife.
HAHA it was funnier than shit cause I was just eating an apple and holding a knife and had 3 other people whitness it.

I can tell you guys stories that would blow your mind about some other business's including but not limited to guys selling thier daughters to get work ( seriouslY), guys buy hookers cars and boats for buyers to get work, owners having employees screw there wives/girlfriends while they watch to keep there jobs. The same owner telling the employees that if he cant screw thier wives/ girlfriends he will fire them.

and the best one is the inspectors of aircraft parts buying off junk parts, do to gifts ie hookers cars boats and coke.
one of our outsource inspectors at this company I worked for would bring about a lb of coke to the shop for a chrismas presant every year. funny how a guy making 50k a year could afford a 40 foot hot boat, a 80 foot house boat with slip a turbo carra porche a brand new truck every year live in a 1/2 million dollar home paid for and this was in the early 90's

Punched him through the screen door?!! That is good. People have to understand clients can be like a small child...If they get by with it once, they'll do it to you again and they WILL TELL EVERYONE! I did my first "Big" job for a Company run by the Grandson, now you can deal with the Founder and you can deal with the Sons, but man those "Princes" will screw you! Anyway, I did this job, got to work when the Hookers would pull on your doors at red lights and leave at 9 or 10 that night, long damn hours. So, I finish the job and everyone is really Happy, until Prince asks me to come over and let's talk about the Bill. Well, he's sitting behind this big desk, looking like he was everything and then some, he says "You know how we settle this Invoice will mean if you work for me again" I just looked at him and said for him to pay the invoice in full! If I had let him get away with that I would have had to just lock up and call it quits. People have to understand where you stand and make sure you are delivering the right message. This is MY LIFE and my Families they are Phughking with! John

I gave her alot of beer to make me better looking that night:D

THe more she drank the better looking I got:cool:

In 1979, I sold a 1966 Mustang for $600 to get a down payment on a 1979 Honda CBX. At the time, it was the fastest production machine made (for less than 100K)
11.50 in the ¼ mile and a top speed of well over 150.
The Mustang was in good condition but the tranny was going. In 79, nobody collected Mustangs.
That summer was my “glory days”. 23 years old, single and I had the fastest street machine in town, maybe the whole valley.
About a year later, the bike was stolen. Five years later people started collecting and restoring Mustangs and a good 66 became worth ten thousand dollars.

We had a one truck construction business. Work was coming in, we needed another truck, and couldn't afford one. If I had another truck, I could pick up another job immediatley, had the people lined up, everything but the cash for the truck. I traded my WIFES car for the truck....man was she pissed. But it worked out for the best. We got more work, and in 6 months I bought her another car, with a trailer hitch so she could haul compressors, and other machinery to job sites. She didn't see the humor in that either. It was kinda funny seeing that Volare Station wagon coming down the road pulling a compressor with two toddlers in car seats in the back seat.

I snookered an unknowing MailOrderBride into marrying me. It has worked out well for me, but I'm not sure about how she feels about the deal.

I sold my two week old brand new snowmobile to buy my wifes wedding ring. Best thing I ever did too. More recently, I mortgaged the house to start two more LLC's.

Here's the deal, I'm looking at a Piece of Realestate thats Way out of my league. It's all funny money right ? That being said a Million, million point two more in Debt is what ?!?!? ;) I'm looking at some Options and talking to some good people with money thats in the "know". But I think I'm about to the Point of selling the Truck and doing away with several other things. Maybe some land transactions or whatever. The land would be the location of our new company, and then we would build eventually 3 other buildings on it and lease them out. about 20-25 thousand Ft2 total. Numbers look good but it's just alot of coin right now...... I don't think I would find it hard without my stuff I own. I have an option of taking the Small chunk and jsut doing that, but the location is nice and I'd like to own it ALL !!! (I know, wife says I never settle small unless it comes to deer and elk... Gesh ) Once the investments pay out it's all gravey.... so the theory is ;)

Good to see I'm not the only one that has thought that way :D :D

Go back to sleep and give it some more thought... I think you are going to be real tired in the morning... good luck.

HAHA.... YAH, Wed nights I play Basket ball... from 9-11:30. For some reason I'm the type of guy that plays hard (Or as hard as my fat and out of shape body can) then I'm up for at least 2 hours. That, and I got Elbowed in the Jaw that Knocked me off my feet to the ground. WOW, I haven't got hit that hard since I hit the wrong hole.......in golf I mean !!!! ;) The land has been on my mind for awaile. It's the last piece in the area I wanted land. Just hit the market. There is always more land but it always comes with a price. The more I think about it the more I think to go the lesser option and have a piece of it instead of trying to work the big deal and loose it all...... Although, It has to work out. I know it.... Although we jsut moved offices and .... HUMMMM...things to ponder :p
