I change my vote to muskrat. Sometimes they roam small water. I remember several years ago my Lab Pearl got bit in the face by a muskrat when we were hunting pheasants along a small ditch on the edge of a pasture. Little bugger had her by the lip and wouldn't let go. I had to kick it. Boy did that shock her. She didn't even know it was there. It came out of the little patch of cattails right after her. I was concerned after the fact about rabies even though she'd been vaccinated. Turned out okay.
