What are you currently reloading?

You do you, don’t let me sway you. Most statisticians would tell you my 10-round sample is statistically insignificant, too.

If you’re satisfied with any of your 3-round tests, I’d then load 10-rounds to get a better idea of SD.

The Hammer method is an interesting shortcut. They recommend loading singles until you get pressure signs, back off a grain or so and load a batch for ES and accuracy testing.
I generally load 3 or 5 rounds. Conserves on some components. Then if there is a charge I like I load more there to confirm. Sort of a hybrid.

Some Hornady’s 140 grain Monoflex for my model 94 in 30-30.
NY being the firearm friendly state that it is, keeps talking about going non-lead on State lands, which means that it will most likely become law.
So I’m trying to be prepared if/when it does.

Have you tried any other non-lead options for the .30-30? I always see the TSX and E-Tip when I’m browning Barnes’s and Nosler’s website but I haven’t tried them yet.

Yes, I’ve tried the Barnes 150 grain TSX fn and was getting around 2280 fps from almost max load as the fastest shot, but I couldn’t really find anything very accurate.
So I’m going to test these out, and I think I’ll be able to get more muzzle velocity and hopefully better accuracy. Fingers crossed.
I shoot right now the 160 FTXs and those are wonderful so I’m hoping that the Monoflexs will be better.
This is a reply from Barnes after I emailed them about velocities and expansion;

The 30 cal 150 gr TSX FN FB will hit full, double diameter expansion down to an impact velocity of 1600 fps. Our load data https://barnesbullets.com/content/barnes-loaddata/rifle/308/30-30-Winchester.pdf uses a 24" barrel. I'd subtract 100 fps for your 20" barrel. If I used a moderate MV of 2050 fps, 1000' elevation (average NY state altitude) and 32 deg F (cold NY Fall morning) I'd call 110 yds the max yardage you should try a shot. Depending on your loading skills I would think 2200 fps is achievable which then pushes the max yardage out to 145 yds.

So I’ve reached the projected 2200 fps but as I said I just wasn’t happy with the accuracy yet.

One suggestion when trying Mono bullets is to start with a clean bore. Some rifles and bullets are more finicky on that. I notice a difference with my 270 if I have shot jacketed bullets then try a barnes. Worth trying if you haven't.
