Tough season in SC but ended the year with an epic hunt on the coast!

VA season wraps tomorrow and hoping to get a few shots on what open water remains. Going with a coworker on his first duck hunt so maybe that will bring us some luck during the deep freeze.

Duck hunting is long gone for the season where I live. But I got my goldeneye back from wildfowl unlimited the other day and added it to the flock. Might be able to squeeze one more onto that wall but not sure. View attachment 399972

My season ended great with the mallard limit this morning, after a very slow start. Got a single about 8 o'clock and that was the first duck I saw. Between then and about 10 o'clock I had a couple of small flocks of mallards fly over very high without paying any attention. Then just after 10 another single decoyed well and that made it a good day. I had planned to stay till about 11:30 but at 10:30 a flock of 6 or 7 mallards decoyed and I got a triple, so what a way to end my season. They came right in without circling, kind of hard to believe for late season birds. I had not seen any other ducks besides mallards so I didn't wait around for the bonus duck. Despite some slow days this was my best season in the last 4 years, by far, particularly on the river. Hopefully next year will be as good or better.

Closed the season out with Tilly's first goose. She's been a lot of fun and had a great first year hunting.
