Was shooting crappy shells that won’t cycle so basically I was shooting a single shot.

Went down south to hunt with a brother in law and had a couple good mornings. 4 man limit one day and 3 man limit the next. Fun to watch the dog work.

Saturday morning revealed me and the dog set up way too early before LST, like set up and waiting with 1.5 hours to go. I hate getting beat out. Expectations were low but I managed a pair of gadwall within the first few minutes. Just about all bird movement ended within about 10 min of LST. But I’m never gonna complain about a pair of ducks on public.

And dinner tonight was some puddle ducks from the past week or so with a blackberry reduction sauce courtesy of GunDog Magazine. Delicious.

After a slow start to the season I finally got out for my 2nd hunt and did great on very few ducks flying. The 2 "brown" ducks are Mexican duck drakes, fairly common in NM.

Send them south!! I need a few more fat mallards for roasting! I promised I’d take me niece deer hunting for opener but I’ll be chopping ice early Sunday morning to try to squeeze in another duck hunting

I’m 6weeks into my season and 10miles south of the border! Let me shoot them for a minute! . I need two more mornings of shooting them and then I’ll send them. I grab the deer rifle for Saturday.

I have updates. Beaver ponds, back waters and rivers with rice edge froze last night. It’s big water or hang it up time here in northern MN.

I have no idea why the mallards showed up today, but mid-morning I decoyed 4 flocks of 10-15 birds each. About 15 minutes apart, just falling out of the sky. It's been very warm with no weather so I wasn't expecting that. Good thing I got a lot of chances because I was not shooting well. Big flocks of mallards still get my blood pumping!!
