Hope this works. :)

The bill is SB 143 Revise Bison Management introduced by Sen John Brenden.

Please send message to Senate Fish & Game committee opposing this bill.

Hold on a minute here....
This is SB 143: http://data.opi.mt.gov/bills/2013/billpdf/SB0143.pdf

(from http://laws.leg.mt.gov/legprd/law0203w$.startup?P_SESS=20131)

This doesn't sound like the one Ben is talking about although it sounds like a bad one (wild bison are essentially illegal in MT, harvested immediately when crossing the border, etc).

Somebody better explain all this to me

They will be under this bill. As it sits now, they could be moved to public or private lands that gave permission. That's how I read it. They could move on to Montana lands that were allocated for that purpose.

This bill essentially says that there will be no management of wild free range Bison, because there won't ever be any to manage. This bill makes sure of that.

The state could not move Bison to Native American reservations either.

How this bill could stop the Feds from moving Bison to a reservation is beyond me.

The bill Ben originally referenced (SB135) is not about Bison. SB 143 appears to amend the existing law
.
Some objectionable changes to the original law by SB 143 I've found...
Line 17, page 4 seems to prohibit any bison transplant (except to Moiese).
Line 26/27 page 5 limits the transfer of bison to Moiese
page 11... bison can be hunted any time of the year

Help me out... if I'm going to comment I'm going to do it about what it does!

[thanks SS, you posted at the same time I did and answered my question, in addition to preventing there being a wild bison hunt as opposed to a firing line at the border, it sounds like it would end the extra roaming room around Gardiner ].

'Not sure what bill Ben was referring to, but SB 143 is the bison bill introduced by Sen Brenden and seems to be closest to what Ben was describing. Anyhow, it's a bad bill.

He won by a landslide in that district. We (MSA PAC) supported and campaigned for his opponent (Julie French). We had hoped to do better, but sportsman have short attention spans. They get all PO during the session, but don't come out and be heard when it counts the most.

The Bison issue caused by Brian Schweitzer didn't help us.:W:

Mom was pretty disappointed she lost that race...... but it wasn't: a big surprise. She was out gunned dollar wise. Too bad, as she would have been as helpful to us as Brendan is harmful.

Elkwhisper, having corresponded with your Mom, Julie French, I am sure she was disappointed. And there were many more of us also disappointed. Although supportive of other candidates as well, your Mom is the only one to whom I wrote a check. I am hopeful she will take another shot at that legislative seat. A change there would be a plus for Montana.

Senator Brenden walked up to me today before the committee hearing and just said "I bet you're not glad to see me back."

Thanks for the correction on my bill number guys. The correct bill is SB 143
